I was driving down the highway, enjoying my new Prius with only 280 miles on it.... Tink! 1/2 inch crack in the windshield. Life sucks!
D'oh! That's shite. Take it to an auto glass place. I think with small cracks they can apply some sort of epoxy that makes it invisible and will keep the crack from spreading.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(G-Man @ Jun 4 2007, 01:29 PM) </div> Some insurance companies cover the damage through their glass department for free irrespective of deductible (though I don't know if one needs to have comprehensive for that). It was easy for me with Geico.
I took it to a glass place, they fixed it so it won't spread, but yes, you can still see it. God I hate to have the windshield pulled. I've been through leaky windshields, scratched paint from install and just lousy work before. I have to pay a deductable. I can have them put an OEM Toyota screen in though.
Let me add to this... On the way home I hear a few more tinks. Little ones. When I get home I see marks in the glass. These were VERY little stones or whatever. Do I have a bad tempered piece of glass here? I mean I have had rocks hit my Pilot and Accord that sounded like they were coming through the windshield and never left a mark. This is UNREAL! Maybe I need some type of wind deflector on the front? Anyone else experience this? One crack and two small chips in one day. I can't imagine what this will look like in a month!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(G-Man @ Jun 4 2007, 05:25 PM) </div> my o5 tacoma was the same way, got a new windshield put in after a crack kept growing, then next week a nice chip from a rock. got that small crack glued tight, seems rocks love toyotas
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(G-Man @ Jun 4 2007, 06:25 PM) </div> Within the first week of having the car, I rock put a 2 inch round star right in the field of vision. I mean perfectly zeroed in front of the driver. Had to have the windshield replaced. It already has two more nicks in the new windshield. My wife thinks the shape of the front end causes rocks to hit the windshield.
I got a 4" crack driving home from getting my windows tinted. 3 days of owning the prius. I got quotes all over, but everyone kept saying they cant find the parts to replace it because Toyota is still the only manufacturer for the windshield. $900 for parts, then labor comes to around $1100 for replacement. Its worth the insurance claim. I havent gotten mine replaced yet because it hasent kept spreading. Its about 12" long now. I'll get it replaced later on because I had to lower my deductable from $500.

It was not the Toyota windshield but an aftermaket product. It is perfect. I cannot tell from the original. In fact my wife took the car and had it fixed and I forgot about it and it was fixed for a couple of days before I realized it.
Crap. My old Subaru got pinged when it was one month old. I had that repaired. Then it got another crack that quickly spread so I had to replace the windshield. The new windshield was about one month old when it got pinged.
