I don't know if this link has been posted here before? Prius ranked #2 (which they describe as iconic, egg-shaped hybrid) .......... Honda Civic CX which runs on compressed natural gas, got #1 ???? http://reviews.cnet.com/4326-10863_7-65627...html?tag=ss_prv
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(FloridaWen @ Jun 1 2007, 04:22 AM) </div> Yeah, it is old news. Even though the NGV it runs cleanest of all cars, it is of little relevance due to the fact that it is not sold in sufficiently large numbers to be trully meaninful. Besides, with its limited range and versatility it is not the first choice for many folks who operate outside an urban environment either. Cheers; MSantos
I'm proud to say the only two cars I've ever owned are on that list! NGVs are pretty much less practical today than EVs. Sure you can buy that nifty home filling thing from Honda, but it takes 16 hours to fill and what if you only have propane instead of natural gas at your home? I've been told the Civic GX will run on propane, but propane is more expensive than natgas so that negates a lot of the economic benefits. I briefly considered a Civic GX instead of the Prius but when looked at the features and specs I was quickly turned off. The stereo only has 2 speakers and the extent of the available accessories is an auto-dimming mirror, floor mats, and a leather steering wheel cover.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DGCL @ Jun 1 2007, 01:17 PM) </div> We have a fleet of Civic GX's at work. They are not luxury cars, with fewer features than a Prius, and cost $25K, which is more than the typical Prius. Our organization has high-capacity natural-gas compressors/re-fueling facilities which are automated. Filling up is the same effort as fueling up with gasoline. You have to do it more often because compressed natural gas is much less energy dense than gasoline. I don't mind driving GX's at work, but it wouldn't make sense for me to own one. Harry
Wow, I never knew that Nissan licensed the HSD for the Altima hybrid until now. Maybe Nissan and Toyota will keep a good thing going here!
