i searched the forums and did not see any related posts. Has anyone else noticed when the ice shutsdown it can cause an excessive vibration almost like a broken motor mount. i have noticed my car starting to do this harder and harder. this morning when coming to a red light the ice shut down and it sputtered 2-3 seconds hard enought to feel a vibration through the steering wheel. from what i have read the ice is under load during shut down and you are going to feel it quit but i dont think it should spill your coffee either. i talked to a couple shops all said this was not normal. any ideas? oh yea 3k miles

it's something that get's better or less noticeable as you break-in your car. when i first got mine those 'shudders' of the shutting down of the ICE did kind of unnerve me at first... wondering if they were normal. then as i got used to them i seldom even notice it anymore... and when i do i welcome it knowing i'm going stealth!
the shutter is normal and will lessen as the car warms up and breaks in over time. also the fact that the engine design in the Prius opens all the valves at the same time lends to more momentum to the flywheel. in a normal engine when a valve is always closed and therefore providing some resistance to the flywheel, the shake is not pronounced since when the engine is shutoff, valve pressure allows less than one full revolution of the engine. in the Prius, the flywheel may rotate 2-3 full revolutions before coming to a stop.
thanks for the links and follow up guys. i feel a lot better now knowing other people have noticed this also and have had no problem
my 2004 still has the occasional "rough" shutdown after 12,000 miles. however, I'm currently testing the theory that it might occur (or be worse) more often when I don't have my foot firmly planted on the brake. rpm
i have noticed the electric doesnt shut off unless you press firmly on the brake also thanks for the tip i am gonna watch that
