Our new Prius is a replacement for our 1992 Plymouth Colt Vista. We bought it new in april or may 1992. We haven't sold it yet. It is old and has devolped an oil leak around the head gasket. This car as already had major stuff done to it in the past, like having the head and head gasket replaced as well as the entire distributor (major pain to find one). It still drives good and gets good mileage but is not expected to last a whole lot longer; but it may surprise us.

For those not familiar with the Plymoth Colt Vista...it is a 3 door hatchback. Manual drive. On passenger side it has a sliding door like on a mini-van in the back. It was aimed at folks that wanted a minivan but couldn't afford one. The back seat seats 3 people and can fold down, down and up, or can be taken out for space. I moved a couch with it once! It's made by Mitsubishi, and Mitsubishi still makes them in Japan called SRV I believe. It was also sold under the Eagle name of Eagle Summit Wagon.

We still get 35 mpg with the Colt Vista. It has over 246,000 miles on it and remarkably we're still on the first clutch!

You know what, that is absoloutly true(gee I hope I spelled that right), Going from a noisy diesel pickup to the Prius I find myself calmer, and less prone to being a butthead on the road. Now I laugh when some moron decides 60 isnt fast enough and has to pass me, and all I think is, gee I could go 10 miles on what you just used to pass me. :) I do miss the power and acceleration of the pickup though.

I went to the gas station and filled up my Toyota Tundra 4 Door Double Cab (14-17MPG at best) @ $3.19/gal for a total of $75.00USD.

That was the exact moment I dialed my dealer and said "get me out of this thing NOW"

Bye Bye Tundra, HELLO #3 2007 Prius :D

Our Prius replaces a 2003 Ford Taurus that got about 20MPG.

My wife's car (which we've kept) is an '03 Chevy Cavalier that gets 25-30MPG. It's a comfy little car that'll get us through until we can afford a second Prius. :D

We are replacing a 2001 Chevy Malibu with Sports package (spoiler, performance wheels, leather, tint, moonroof, EDS stereo with auto-volume). This is for my commute to work (26 miles each way, and I have a car pool passenger)...

I do love my new Prius... and my coworker is absolutely GREEN with envy B)

It'll be my first car, if I can convince myself to cough up the extra $10k :p Sure is painful to spend $30k on your first car! Going from $0 car payment/insurance and just a $75 bus pass and the occasional taxi to $600 car payment and $200 insurance...

Last Saturday, the Prius replaced a 2004 Absolutely Red Solara Convertible. The Prius will save my wife (and me) about $2000 in one year versus driving the Solara.

I replaced a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 80,000 miles that was averaging around 16 MPG with my new Prius just over a week ago. In addition to the low MPG and $75+ fillups, the truck was due for new tires, brakes and some other work.

We have been interested in the Prius since it first came out, though due to the need for a larger vehicle to haul stuff and minimal to no commutes it was not a high priority. Recently I began commuting 20 miles to work plus a number of work related trips and it became more prudent to again look at the Prius.

My first tank MPG in the Prius was 51.6 and I am about the same with the second tank.

So far I am very pleased with the Prius and enjoy the challenge of trying to get the best mileage out of the car.

Thanks to everyone for all of the informative posts.

Don't worry about hauling stuff. I loaded 16 2 cubic ft. bags of mulch in the back this afternoon at Menards and drove 20 miles home at 60mpg.

We traded my wifes 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue. It had 52000 miles and burned 2 qts of oil every 2500 miles. She got 18-21 mpg. We picked up our 2005 Black Prius with package 6 in October, '05.

I am seriously thinking about selling my 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT and buying another Prius.

I'll say it, I'm a Honda guy. I truely love my Honda's and they have never let me down. But when I went to my Honda dealer in VA, and told him I was thinking about a Hybrid, he told me to look at the Prius. They sell Toyota in WV, so I could still get one there. I tried the Civic and the Prius and the Prius just seems more refined. The Hybrid Accord V6 wasn't enough gain in mileage to make it worth the trouble.

This replaced a 1996 Accord I had 186k on. I had it since new and it's still going strong. Just sold it tonight. I still have a 2006 Accord EX-V6 NAV and a 2005 Pilot, but I commute and I needed something good on gas.

I do love this little battery bugger. Not the most comfortable seats, but that's not the reason I bought it.

This isn't my first Toyota, as I had a 2001 Tundra. Great truck. Sold it with 18k on it because the wife really wanted a Pilot.

2004 Ford Explorer XLT Flex-Fuel (lol) Any takers? LOW MILEAGE!!! :p

    Several reasons.....
    1. Gas. Refuse to line oil company pockets with my money more than I have to. A million better uses for my cash
    2. Environment
    3. My car is paid off completely and is only going down in value. We are going to use what we sell my car for to pay off my husband's which is newer . In the end we'll have a lower car payment and save on gas.

Replaced a 2007 Chevrolet full size 1/2 ton pickup.
Just didn't need that gas guzzling truck anymore. I averaged using 40 gallons of gas a month. This month with the Prius it's 11 gallons. A savings of almost $93.00 at $3.19 a gallon.

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra extended cab 4WD PU.

My commute to work used to be 13 miles (one gallon in the PU)

I changed jobs - now I drive to Hartford CT every day from the CT coast - now 43 miles one way to work (a little less than one gallon in the prius)

So my wife suggested I get a more economical car and I got the Prius. Still have the truck - dump, home depot etc.

However, I did some calculations this morning.

I have almost 5000 miles on the prius (have had it two months).

Prius gets about 48 mpg, truck gets 13. At $3.15 per gallon (arbitrary average gas price) I have saved just under ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS in gas in the last two months!

ACD - yes, I heard that too. Honda sold 439 of them last month, Toyota sold over 25,000 Prii in the last month! (WCBS 880 News radio)
