On a 2007, you can choose QWERTY keyboard layout for the nav system, but if you register names and numbers for the phone system, the keyboard layout is ABCDEF.

In any of the Secret Menus is there one for language? I remember seeing a language screen mentioned somewhere and now I can't find it. I have a Japanese import and would love to change it to English.

    This is a brilliant thread.

Disclaimer: Not speaking from spec, just kinda dead reconing, so it may be off base a bit.

If you listen for it (roll up windows and turn off radio and AC), when you hit POWER to shutdown the car, you will hear a loud CLICK-CLICK coming from near the trunk. I've decided (no proof) that these are the high volt relays being thrown open.

The relays default to open. I imagine this like a spring loaded switch where the spring is held down by some electric clamp that is engaged when the car comes online. So in my imagination, when the power is cut and the car goes offline, the now unpowered clamp releases and the springs throw the relays up to their at rest position (open).

So for the non-technical, this keeps the highvolt battery disconnected when it's powered off. Making it safe for anyone who might need to saw the car in half. From what I've read the relays are blown open if the inertia sensors figure out that you've wrecked the car and deployed airbags. again, so it's safe to saw the car in half (presumably to pull you out).

I'm sure the real system has more to it than that, but this is a simple way for me to visualize, and explain it.

Fold down the rear seats and the sound becomes really loud.

    I just discovered more-
1.The lights for the sunvisor mirrors only come on when the sunvisor is straight up and down. It goes off up (of course) and goes off again when you push it forward. It wouldn't make sense to operate any other way.
    2. If you in "B" Brake mode, you can't engage the cruise control.

If you go into EV mode and then reverse then the backup camera works

    but

if you select reverse and then EV mode you get the energy monitor and no camera

Why would you want EV durring reverse anyway? The ICE transmission isnt designed to go into reverse, thats why its always electric durring reverse. Reverse is an automatic EV :p

Well, I find that the ICE often starts/carries on running when you engage reverse. Whether the transmission in reverse is electric only I dont know, but is a bit beside the point.

I use EV mode when backing out of my garage, and usually when swapping cars around - I think its nice being quiet for the neighbours.

The quirk Im pointing out is that the sequence affects the operation, engaging EV before reverse doesnt stop the camera, but engaging EV after reverse does.

To prevent the ICE from pushing you forward, when you want to be going backward. The ICE is always connected to the wheels via the PSD (power split device or "transmission") and always pushes the car forward. You can see this when you start the car in "P", (no emergency brake), it will move forward a little when the ICE starts.

If you reverse with the ICE running, the electric motor has to fight the forward force of the ICE. With the ICE off, it's easier for the electric motor to move the car and you waste a little less fuel. It's also easier to back up a hill this way I've heard, with the ICE running you may not be able to reverse up a steep hill.

I had an interesting thing happen today; a first for me anyway. (Somebody may have posted it, but I didn't go thru all 21 pages of thread.) I was coming down a long grade (2500 ft drop) and the consumption screen indicated all "turtles" and no green mph graph.

What can you tell me about this? This is interesting as I'd like to add the audio/video capabilitys to my touch screens to play DvDs and such when i'm bored in any situation where i'm parked and such. :]

I do not know if this has been mentioned yet...

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tmorrowus @ Jan 27 2007, 07:32 PM) </div>

I leave my headlights on all of the time letting them shut off when open the drivers door. Today when I arrived at my destination a short downpour had just begun. While waiting out the rain I shut off the headlights to conserve battery. Once the rain let up I turned the lights back on in and went into the building. I happened to look back after I had gotten in and noticed that the lights were still on. I tested this later when it was not raining and had the same results.

If the headlights are turned off and then back on when the car it not running and the drivers door has yet to be opened, they will not shut off automatically.

Push the power button twice without pressing the brake pedal, then release the parking brake...

...the red 'brake' indicator on the dash *stays on*!!

Under 12 mph, you can drive or glide into your parking space after unlatching seatbelts with no seatbelt beep for either driver or passenger.

It is a well-known fact that listening to Bruckner symphonies whilst washing the Prius may lead to permanent mind-warp, especially if is one of Anton's later ventures. Stay with Mozart or Haydn whilst sudsing your vehicle. Both of you will have a calmer demeanor as a result.

Apology!! Looking more carefully at what I referred to as Prius sway bar connecting link is actually something else - probably a link for an attitude sensor for headlight vertical aiming to compensate for vehicle load weight.

Driving w/ the Map Display on the mfd, if you have icons displayed ... gas stations, Burger kings, what ever, and you're traveling w/ the car at the bottom of the screen, not w/ the display showing North at the top ... watch the icons, they'll turn with the car, so they'll always be facing upward
