Hybrids, at least Toyota's, continue to increase at a significant rate. The Prius set a another sales record, 24009 units sold in May, almost triple the number sold last year. The Camry had a solid month as well.

    Obligatory, shiny graphic:

I wonder how closely the lines on that graph follow gas prices. :)

    That's fantastic!

Prius prices are dropping as supply increases, gas prices are going up; It's not a big surprise I guess. I hope and expect that hybrids are going to account for much more than the current 2.9% in the near future.

The Toyota ECO-nomic savings incentives certainly didn't hurt!

I would expect to see a significant correlation between the two, especially for 2006 and 2007... It would be interesting to see a single graph of this with 2004- 200X in a single continuous line as opposed to 4 lines stacked on top of each other...

Please remember that last year's Prius sales were held down by the Camry start-of-production snafu. Toyota just didn't produce enough Prii to satisfy demand. And the sales figures are therefore artificially depressed for comparison purposes between last year and this year.

Yeah, but a guy on Fox News said this morning that hybrids weren't worth the extra money.

    Gee, now I'm confused. ;)

Well you should definitely get rid of your Prius then... Fox 'News' is always unbaised and 100% correct all the time... in fact you should just give your prius to me since its just not worth keeping... :D

That was part of it but Toyota has also ramped up production by something like 50%. TCH production doesn't make up for the gap. It's really been a combination of what you pointed out, increased prius production, falling prices and sustained price hikes for petrol. People aren't expecting gas to get cheap again and that's having an effect. Of course, since there are a lot of prii out there now, the word is getting out on the street and more and more people are hearing about the car.

We have six of them in town now, in a village of 624 people. I know an older couple here that rented a Prius for a few days just to try it out. They returned it with checkbook in hand, ready to buy one, only to discover all of the Prius had sold off the lot while they were test driving. They are selling like hotcakes again. Cool beans!

Not only that, but nobody wants a Prius these days because there are too many people buying them. :D

Let's take another, albeit personally biased, look at that chart:
clumsily generated, and probably includes search-engine updates,
but overall showing a nice recent upward trend...

I'm really happy to see that. Just yesterday I saw 3 Pri in my area, which, if you know where I live, is VERY uncommon! But, it is beginning to become common lol.

In the past few weeks I've seen three other Pri around here in nowheresville Ohio too. -Bound to see more of course because of the increase of sales due to the gas prices (me for one). Yup, it's official. The Pri have invaded...the damned space pods! :p

Up here in Bowling Green there are a lot of Prii now... I was one of only 1 or 2 in town a year ago and now I cannot even drive from my apartment to outside of town (which is 1.5-2.25 miles in any direction) without seeing at least 2 or 3 priuses... but not too many red ones... mostly black, grey, blue, and pine mica and a few white... Which is good for me, I can still be unique for a while longer! :D

I'm quite willing to give up my uniqueness to see more Prii on the roads around here...I just don't get the love affair some people have for their gas guzzling old cars or vans (too many of these things around here -almost like seeing dying dinosaurs before they finally kick the bucket) -and lets not forget the Hummer (I've seen at least around ten of those things here in the past year). Though for now, I'm still the only white Prius in the area, as far as I know.
