Has anyone imported a Prius from the states to canada? The exchange rate is EXTREMELLY favourable now and the equipment and cost of features are a LOT less in america. For some reason canadians are still treated with a 1.5 exchange rate. All taxes and rebates calculated a loaded prius in canada costs 41557 whereas a comparable loaded sans leather in the states costs only 35187 canadian with NO rebates that's including state sales tax, conversion to canadian dollars, and also import taxes on the vehicle. Has anyone done this? I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario, it's a 5 minute drive to the border from where i live. And what is the best classified site for used cars in the state particularly new york state. In canada we have the auto trader, is there anything similar to that?? and is there any way to change the prius's computer screen to display metric measurements? not just the speed. like have the economy ratings in l/100km as oposed to miles per gallon?
This thread: Import to Canada has some similar discussion. Its by some one out east (relatively) near you anyway. A few of us West Coasters have imported successfully. Anecdotally - it seems the hard part is finding a dealer in any of the border states that is willing to sell to you though. I haven't found a way to get the full metric conversion - I'd like to know if there was a way - anyone out there have any info on this? Edit: damn it! how do you get the text to align left??
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ May 30 2007, 12:10 AM) </div> hmm... it is now.. i wonder if its my browser (diff computer).
Tideland Prius asked "any updates regarding the fed rebates?" Attn Americans and other "foreigners" - this is for Canada. I just checked (of course as I just purchased my Prius). Dealer had no clue. I contacted the feds. "Nothing will happen until fall" was the response. Based on what has been happening recently with the Con-servative govt., I would say it's fall at the earliest. I don't expect anything until next year. As long as you purchased a Prius after March 23 (I think that was the date), you will be eligible for a $2000 rebate. Make sure you keep a copy of your sales agreement. Check the fed. govt site for updates: http://www.tc.gc.ca/programs/environment/e...AUTO-QandAs.htm
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ranmandx @ May 29 2007, 11:52 PM) </div> Huh. I was just in Niagara Falls. I saw a couple of Priii there (as well as driving my own). </New post, adds nothing>
I am still in the process of importing my Prius from Phoenix to Victoria. I am not able to get RIV to send me form 2. I do not know what gives, I provided them with the Recall Letter Via email. this has been over 6 weeks so far, a little frustrating having it sit in the driveway. Any one have better luck?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jdsmith @ Jun 9 2007, 11:14 PM) </div> Are you in the process of importing, or has it been imported already (sitting in your driveway)? They should mail form 2 to you after you cross the border, fill in form 1, and pay your duty+gst. 10 days. If you email, you need to send them a copy of your form1 or proof that you paid duty, gst, and riv fee (all anyone really wants - money). I sent a scan of my recall clearance and riv fee receipt to , and got a response in less than a day. Very good service for that 200 bucks.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(arbitrage @ Jun 10 2007, 02:47 AM) </div> I just brought across my 2007 Grey Touring #2 last night into Canada. What email address did you use to send your RIV reciept and Form 1 too? Thanks. PS Terrific car! 80km so far on the 2nd tank of gas is at 53.9mpg (US)!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jharris @ Jul 2 2007, 07:53 AM) </div> IIRC its recall_at_riv.ca - they wont respond to the info_at_riv.ca for form2 requests. Loving the car, but sad to say, my mpg is a puny ~41 (3rd tank, but my commute is <6km one way). <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(David Beale @ Jul 2 2007, 08:42 AM) </div> For the pkg5vers and 6ers eh. Not quite 11k for me (equating a pkg3 to pkgB) - spend less, save less.
