OK, so I got the Prius to save gas, produce less emissions, and have a lower impact on the environment. Among other reasons.

The PROBLEM is, I want to drive it more! It's just too much fun. Sitting at home, thinking of errands I "have" to run. And when I do use it I get so caught up in the technology (gliding etc), sometimes I forget what I was going to get.

Sounds like the folks who go "Sunday driving" on long flat 40 MPH stretches just to get the tank mileage up. OK, OK, I admit that I offer to drive when my friends and I are going out more than "my share".

I also have to admit that I volunteer to drive more often than I used to. Part of the reason is that I don't trust the driving of some of my friends. But the biggest reason is that Phoebe is just so much fun to drive.

It's a dilemma for me as well. I have to force myself to do as many errands on my bicycle as I used to do pre-prius (PP).

No worries. On my 'fun' weekends, I use up to 2 tanks of gas.

Well, as part of "breaking in" the Prius, we took it around the Olympic Pennisula loop on Sunday...
    ... on 7.5 gallons of gas :D

I volunteer to drive all the time when I'm going somewhere with someone else. Besides the fact that I like to drive, we use less gas taking my car than theirs!

Its all part of the Prius driver state of mind. Don't worry, its perfectly normal. I bought mine to save (commuter) miles on my real fun car, my beloved Subaru. I have saved so many miles, that the Subaru ran less than 1,000 in the time I did 35,000 on the Prius. Go figure.

I too had this dilemna 3 years ago when we first converted to hybrid technology....and it lasted for about 6 months. Since then, my wife and I found an even better way to save petrol and the environment....

    drive it less!

    you are defeating the purpose!

To many, including myself, the Prius is addictive.

    I hear you...

My wife and I bought a 2007 Prius a few weeks ago. Since she drives more for work than I do, her car was done with its lease, and she needs a nicer car for work than I do, she is driving the Prius during the week. I'm "stuck" in my Camry. In a few years the plan is for me to take over the Prius, sell the Camry, and we'll move to the next car for her (a 100 MPG Prius in 2010?). Until then it's the occasional week night drive for me and then the weekends. Like you I'm now looking for reasons to go places. ;) That trip to see her friend 8 hours away now sounds like fun.

I was just about to create this exact thread when I stumbled across it! I feel the same way. I want to save money / lower my emissions.....but I freaking wanna drive this thing everywhere!!!!

Thus I end up going to the gas station just as often as before...

heck you think the Prius is additive, try buying an electric car...its even worse. at the rate im going, i will have to replace my batteries in less than 3 years...oh well...

did say it was nice to drive 1000 miles in my Zenn for a total cost of about $21
