So I was pulling out of Sam's Club today and another Prius driver and family waved at me.. it was pretty neat. Only had the car 2 weeks and already feel loved.

do most of yall do this? ive read on the forums some but I guess its a kinda bond we have?

There should be a section on the forums for prius sightings.. so we can come on here and post about it and see if it was a member or not

We were at Ruby Beach, WA yesterday, and I actually *blush* yelled, "Hi!" at a Prius driver that was pulling out... as we were standing at the back of ours, switching our shoes.

He looked at us like we were nuts.

Also said Hi to a Highlander Hybrid owner, who says he's getting 31 MPG with it... he thought our Prius was purty :)

I normally wave to other hybrid owners. Doesn't matter which kind. Most probably think I'm nuts. A few Prius owners have waved back.

I did once wave at an Insight driver who smiled and waved back.

Yeah, I notice the Prius owners are not as friendly as the GTO owners were (I know, I use to drive the Anti-Prius). But I will keep waving, maybe I will get lucky.

In SoCal we are just lucky when nobody points a gun. Waving or blinking your lights or anything out of the ordinary course of business is APPARENTLY construde as:

    a. you are a complete and utter freak
    b. a gang sign
    c. you must be out of gas (pun intended)
    or
    d. you've mistaken them for a celebrity

I hate that it is this way but ....such is life.

When my wife and I bought our Prius in 2005, exactly one week before Katrina came onshore and sent fuel prices soaring, the car salesman said, "You know, you are now part of a very small, tight-knit group of people and you will be expected to wave at other Prius owners as they pass."

We took that to heart and waved at the first handful of Prii we saw, and you know, very few drivers waved back. We were disappointed. We liked the idea of being in a sub-culture... We still wave.

In NorCal I haven't had any waves or even glances from other Prius drivers. Everyone I've looked at hopefully has been staring straight ahead, focused on driving. Maybe they're watching their mileage on the screen.

I commute on 101 and sometimes see 30-40 Prii en route! I've had my Prius for about a month and I'm slowly realizing that a Prius is not that special around here anymore. That's fine, but what happened to the camaraderie?

My point, exactly. It's kind of like the "Ma-and-Pa" corner market that grew into a mega-corporation, becoming too big for its own britches. Sigh...

Returning home from visiting friends in Napa on Saturday afternoon, we followed a new Prii (dealer plate still attached) on two lane, no passing, highway 12. When we reached I-80, the lady slowed down to give us a wave before continuing her journey on highway 12.

Of course we waved back . . . then the wife and I simultaneously said - in a kind of loving parental voice - "well isn't that cute."

Yep, us veterans are kind of over it, but the newbies tend to look for it. We're not yet too jaded to welcome the young'uns to the club. :)

yeah, same here. But I have never seen as many prii as there are in Berkeley. They all stare ahead, I am waiting for a wave, but I drive a HCHII....

We had a Sliver prius follow behind us for a while in Hermann MO then we waved and honked as we turned off., So if that was anyone here we saw you, and it's nice to see more pri on the roads in Missouri B)

I've also looked to wave at fellow Prius owners as I pass by, but they're all looking straight ahead! We need to all try to start a tradition to be friendly and wave at our fellow Prii (Is that right?, plural?) When we were driving a Jeep, fellow Jeepsters practically busted a gut waving at each other! Let's start a tread! :D

I had a lady pull up next to me at a stoplight on Friday in another Prius, and she looked over, smiled, and gave me the thumbs up. That was cool! :D

I always make an effort to look at and wave at other hybrid drivers but like stated above, they usually are not looking anywhere but straight ahead. Often times the flow of traffic dictates keeping ones eyes on the road so I understand.

I am starting to see a lot of younger people driving Prii in my area. It used to be it was only older folk I see. Guess the youngin's are starting to wisen up.

Corvette owners used to do that too until the C5s got so cheap that the "kids" or ghetto kids started driving them. :(

I live in a little city outside of Houston, TX and I think there are probably about 10 other Prii in town and I have waved at everyone I see and haven't gotten anything in return... I think the Prius needs a proximity sensor that flashes or beeps when other Prii are near so the drivers will know when to look around and wave. :p

There are still so few in Sacramento and many of the ones that I do see are fleet vehicles but a wave is still usually in order.

Just last week I was filling up at the Shell and had a Prius owner roll down his window and yell "nice car" from the left turn lane across the street. B)

What he said! Plus I lost count how many Prii I saw this AM. I am tempted to look over next time I pass one to see if they are looking back...maybe I'll venture a wave.

Knowing that we have at least 4 other Sacramento Prii owners on this board I always try to make the effort. I never know when it will be one of you guys. I'm the only one with wheels and tint though. You guys need some kind of mod that I can seperate you from the masses. ;)

Have not seen much of the Prius wave recently here in SoCal since there have been more on the roads but seems like Prii will still flock together on the roads or in a parking lot.
