CD trouble

Is the CD player otherwise running okay? Does it have power? Which sound system do you have?

What happens when you try to eject the CD?

I dont know specifically about the OEM radio, but from prior experience with aftermarket players in the past. In the back of the aftermarket ones there is a hole that you can poke a small standard screwdriver in that releases the eject mechanism and you can usually just tilt it and the cd will fall out. It's worth a shot. By the way this may not be your case but I learned that when I had the problem with my previous cars cd player it was caused from a cd-r disc that I pressed a label on, it seems as when the temps change drastically the label can peel up or bubble up just enough to get it stuck. Have you tried kicking it?

Do you hear any sounds? Put your ear up to it and press eject. Most likely it's just jammed up.

 

You didn't, by any chance, put a home made CD with a stick-on label in the changer, did you? There've been reports of a label really gumming up the works.

Unfortunately, that appointment with the dealer is going to cost you a whole new CD player deck, and speaking from experience, both the single CD player and the 6-CD changer are way overpriced for what they are.. Apparently, the single player or changer from a contemporary model Toyota will work in the Prius, but they are similarly overpriced from the dealers, but it may help you locate something on the used market.. In my case, I managed to score a used single CD player from a Tundra off E-bay for cheap, and the Prius stereo system did recognize the drive, but unfortnately, the mechanism was jammed as well, so it's quite obvious that the mechanisms are quite fragile... I also tried a "USA-Spec" CD/MP3 player, but this unit, although it plugs in and powers up, obviously does not have the right AVC-LAN communications and is not recognized by the Prius stereo system..

There was a guy who hacked a circuit to connect an aftermarket AM/FM/CD/MP3 player to the Prius, but the package of his circuit plus the aftermarket player was just about as expensive as a new Toyota deck (although the hacked circuit had the advantage of being able to play MP3s from burned CDs, which the stock Toyota drive can't do).. In any case, the guy seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.. I emailed him a while back and he claimed that he would be making more, but then I never heard another word from him, so I'm now stuck with a hole behind the cover where my CD player used to be..

That's why I asked about the labeled CD... I think it's a warranty issue.
