Did I really help the environment? someone else bought my low milage V8 by now and driving it around at 15-16 MPG. I would have done more for the environment if I'd let it sit in my driveway - I wasn't driving it but maybe twice per month. Maybe in 10 years or so results can be seen of less gas guzzlers on the highway....

Past You: driving guzzler Your buyer: driving guzzler 2. Now You: driving fuel efficient Your buyer: driving guzzler 3. Future You: driving fuel efficient Your buyer: driving fuel efficient
I have been wondering about this for the last year. I think a way to think it through is if the person who buys your guzzler didn't, he/she might buy a new one. So there goes much more CO2 into the air as it is manufactured. You've (I've) just recycled our guzzlers. Well, it's a relative term. The anti-Prius (2001 Pathfinder) got pretty good mileage for a 4400 lb vehicle with 250 HP. I wouldn't class it as a "guzzler", just an enthusiastic user of gasoline.
by buying a hybrid you're demonstrating that there is demand for more efficient vehicles and providing R&D dollars for future developments.
Hi John6012, Depends on what the car the guy who bought yours was. Assuming it was another guzzler, and it was worn out (or he would not have been looking to buy a replacement), then you changed things from two guzzlers (one most likely belching smoke) , to a Prius and a Guzzler. So, that is about as much progress as one can hope for.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(MegansPrius @ May 23 2007, 05:01 PM) </div> Well, if I (we) really wanted to sacrifice and help the enviroment, we would've taken our gas guzzlers to a scrapyard and see that they were crushed and NO ONE could ever, ever drive them and pollute. Then we could have bought the Prius and called ourselves green.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(John6012 @ May 23 2007, 08:27 PM) </div> Wrong. Have you forgotten the cost to the enviroment involved with BUILDING that gas guzzler? over 10,000 gallons of water, among other things. Remember the 3 R's. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reusing something that works is always more efficient then building another and wasting the already-spent resources.
