I found out from a fellow Prius owner that NYS is issuing "green" EZ Passes that carry a 10% discount for tolls on the EZ Pass system. It also looks like the pass is really green! Another perk... info here PriusF1
Thanks for the heads-up. They should let me use it with my 50 mpg motorcycle, too. Harry PS: I just found out I can get a 50 % discount on my motorcycle: http://www.e-zpassny.com/static/info/plan2.shtml Harry
I have a green EZ Pass. however, I have the TZ bridge commuter program already ( I pay $2 instead of $4), so that takes precidence. I've only gone through the TZ bridge toll and Garden State tolls so far. The Garden State didn't seem to give me a discount, however. I do not know about other tolls.

New Jersey doesn't offer any kind of "green" EZ-pass discount. So you're SOL if you're on the GSP or Turnpike.
I posted about this back in March of 2006. http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=17552 The problem with it is that the extra 10% discount is only for the NY Thruway. In other areas you will just get whatever the normal EZ-pass discount is. For me to take advantage of it, I would have to have two EZ-Passes and switch between them because I get a discount that requires the MTA Bridge and Tunnel EZ-Pass, but to get a green you need a NY Thruway EZ-Pass.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Trevor @ May 24 2007, 08:08 PM) </div> Don't you think that the green pass works like a regular pass at non-thruway tolls? PriusF1
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PriusF1 @ May 24 2007, 09:46 PM) </div> Yes, the green pass works at non-thruway tolls. I was told that I can return the regular pass but have not yet. I have been using only the green pass.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PriusF1 @ May 24 2007, 09:46 PM) </div> Yes it should... but I get a Staten Island resident discount for crossing the Verrazano bridge. I believe that has to be an MTA Bridge and Tunnel EZ-Pass. The Green EZ-pass has to be a NY Thruway EZ-Pass. Unless they have consolidated some of the different EZ Pass authorities in NY I would have to use my regular EZ-Pass to get out of Staten Island and then switch to my green ez-pass when I am getting on the Thruway. I might look into this again to see if you still need to have the NY Thruway logo on your ez-pass to get the green one. Here is a quote from the site "To be eligible for the green discount, customers must first have an established E-ZPass account with the New York State Thruway Authority as indicated by the Thruway logo on your tag."
Cool! I never heard of this. Thanks for posting it. Just like the NYS Thruway Dept. to offer a discount without advertising it.
I just checked my EZ Pass statement. I have the TZ bridge commuter plan, so I pay $2 instead of $4. I went through 4 tolls on the NYS Thruway and received a discount and the note states NYGREEN. Every cent counts! Thank you NYS & Toyota!
