Installing Cruise control

If you have a 'gear puller' or can purchase a cheap one, it is the correct way to remove the steering wheel. Otherwise, remove the nut and bang on the backside with a mallet.

My trick to remove the welded nut on the brake switch bracket worked well. Use an abrasive wheel and a Dremel mototool (or similar) to nick each of the welds, then they can be turned more easily. Eye protection for flying sparks.

When you install the new steering wheel, you have to 'hit' the splines correctly so the steering wheel is level when the wheels are straight ahead.

I did this on a low-humidity day and scared of static sparks vs. the airbag. Wore wrist grounding straps and was a bit scared.

Your new brake light switch must be adjusted to the correct depth so that the lights come on with the slightest pressure on the pedal.

You could check with your dealer too, they might do it. Mine did an install using all stock Toyota parts (from Canada, where the '01 had cruise option) and volunteered to cover it along with the rest of the car.

I had an aftermarket stereo shop install cruise on a car once and it was fairly inexpensive.
