saturday we stopped in at a dealer and SAW the stickers with the new toyota rebate/incentive right on them.... plus we've read about them here AND it's right on toyota.com.... so today we send out some internet quote requests... and they come back with prices HIGHER than the current (incentive) MSRP! what's up with that? i emailed one back and called him on it... haven't heard from him yet! plus.... SUPPOSEDLY.... the dealer we were at on saturday was offering 5 specific priuses (prii???) at 3500 under MSRP.... the NEW mrsp... unfortuntately not in the color we wanted.... so far the quotes we're getting that are supposed to be DEALS are all a few hundred ABOVE the current MSRP.... never knew we'd be better off going in and haggling!

What kind of quotes are you getting and on what packages, I would like to compare if you wouldn't mind.

Once you have a salesperson you like go on in and tell them you don't want to play games. I called and talked to the actual sales manager at a few places, not just email.
I think most dealers look at it like some I have been to in the past. Gas prices are up, we have the car you want...either you pay what we want or that guy who just walked in will.
As a general rule I think the dealer assumes you are stupid until you prove otherwise. I was fortunate to schmooze a while with a dealer in Cleveland at the Car show and she told me that on your average Toyota you can deal to get about $1500 off of the MSRP on pretty much all their vehicles. She noted that with the pricing structure that Toyota has to make them more competitive, the dealer doesn't make a whole lot of money off the car but off the incentives to move them. She also noted that on the Scions you can't get but about $500 off MSRP because the profit margins are thinner. Unfortunately alot of dealers see incentives and seem to think that you want the sticker price minus the incentives. Perhaps the incentives come out of their pocket I don't know. But yes to answer your question the dealers all think we are stupid morons. I can tell you right now that you can get a good deal on an SUV right now, (my brother just managed to get an 07 Nissan Murano with a sticker of about $30,000 for ($1000 down and $336 month with no trade)
The dealer does act like we are dumb. This is sales, be in control and get the customer to do what you want them to. If you have an answer for everything and act like you know, you gain control. If you play hard to get and they fall for it, you are in control. Personally I am aware of it and don't play into it. When I looked, I found the best ad price, which was 2500 off msrp any model, and called a salesperson who seemed helpful, and asked for that price on a #2. He had it ready and waiting with one mile on the odo when I arrived. He didn't mind answering the phone at 7 PM, while all the others stood around chatting. That's what I wanted, a salesperson who isn't lazy. Basically 10-11% off msrp is good, plus any incentives. I went for the 0% financing 0 down, as I am now using their money free for two years

I would suggest talking to Shandell at Moreno Valley Toyota or Eric at Toyota of Riverside. Your best bet is going with the fleet department. I got a REALLY good deal on my Prius two weeks ago.
