Set it to 'idle' not minimum. Since the SMP client is still beta I doubt it will be better behaved until they iron all the bugs out but I can flat out state that it sure will be a whole lot faster! :p

OMG that thing is a BEAST! LOL! I have a SMP C2D E6600 also and 4-6 other computers folding and I'm barely keeping up with you! Are you overclocking the E6600 or XTX's? If so how are you keeping everything cool? Anything over 2.4 Ghz and the Core Temps go up to 60+C according to Everest Ultimate Edition. I have four 80mm fans blowing cool air in and four fans exhausting hot air out, two 120mm and two 80mm! Still can't keep the D@$#!%$#m thing cool!

E6600 is overclock to 3.0 Ghz and both ATI GPU is overclock. The CPU is running at around 45C while the GPU is running at 65+C.

To cool the machine, I have 4 120mm fan, 2 in and 2 out. The CPU has a massive scythe Ninja heatsink with a 120mm fan. The GPU is running Artic Cooling Accelero X2 GPU cooler. Applying AS5 on both CPU and GPU also help a lot.

With the temp is getting warmer in my area, I think the machine is overheat especially during the summer. Thinking about switching to liquid cooling. Maybe it will help cool down and archived better OC result. Trying to squeeze more ppd from it. :)

The GUI client has no settings. Supposedly it's always running at the lowest priority. But my experience suggests that's not the case. I've been getting advice on the F@H discussion board, though, and the SMP client, governed by InCrease, was recommended very highly.

Got word that I'm near top of list for the iPhone next month when released (cross fingers). I'm gonna run the client on that and put you all to shame....

My PS3's been off for 2 weeks, and still #1. Better turn it back on cause Trevor is closing in on me....

I keep forgetting you're a . .er. . . ahem . . . Mac aficionado. Does the GUI client have a config file that you can edit? If that is the case then you should be able to set the priority flag to idle by editing the config file. If not, no worries mate, shutting down and starting the client is pretty easy and at times when I am recoding video I shut mine down so that the risk of a BSOD's is minimized. After all who wants a lock up in the middle of an hour+ long recode?

Man those are some sweet temps! I have a Zalman CNPS7500 with AS5. I also applied AS5 to my NorthBridge and SouthBridge heast sinks and I still can't get it stable with a puny 20% 2.88Ghz OC! I have a portable room Air Conditioner that I'm thinking about hooking a 4 inch flex tube to and attaching it to either a 80mm or 120mm intake fan. Can you think of any problems with doing that? I think part of my problem is that three of the 80mm intake fans sit behind the front cover and in front of the drive bays so that air flow is probably restricted.

    My rig. . .

I don't think that's gonna work, since you won't be able to put your own apps on the iphone (at least not yet). That is the one factor that's holding me back. Besides I need a new mac because I tried folding on my 800mhz iLamp and that took a month to crank out a work unit.

And if you think I'm gaining on you, check out the two monsters right behind me.

I tried to shut down the GUI client. It said it was shut down. But the Activity Monitor said it was still using 78% CPU usage!!! I had to kill it to get it to stop.

The GUI client is history. I have deleted it from my computer. I am going to install the SMP client.

Just noticed that anagram for SUPER BEAST is SPARE TUBES. You're going to need some spare tubes to keep those beasts running....

I am now folding again, this time running the SMP client (I think) under InCrease. We'll see if this goes faster, as promised. Also, if it's better behaved than the GUI client.

That power supply have enough juice to power a 8800GTX SLI setup.

I don't see a problem with your cooling. The Zalman is highly rated CPU cooler. You probably need to make sure air flow is good. Is the fan near by the GPU/video card is push/pull setup? I probably won't run that fan as it will disturb the air flow. I will calculate the CFM of the 80mm fans on the front and the 120mm fan on the back. You want to make sure the intake CFM is closed to the exhaust CFM.

Regarding OC that E6600, what is your OC setting? E6600 can easily break 3.6 Ghz with air cool setup.

The SMP client seems to be running a lot faster than the GUI client. In fact, I'm skeptical of my estimate. Presently I have 764 points after 4 WUs. The GUI client took just over an hour to complete each one percent. InCrease tells me that my present WU is 1210 points, if I understand it right, and it is taking 21 minutes to complete each one percent. That is a 19-fold increase in speed. Even though InCrease recognizes that my computer has two CPUs, and the SMP client apparently runs native Intel code, this number is hard to believe.

By this time tomorrow morning I should have completed this WU and see if I really get 1210 points for this WU. Maybe they give additional points for running the faster client???

I really don't care about the points, other than as an indication of how well the program is running.

I think I'm going to try lapping the CPU and Heat Sink and see if that improves the temps.

I really wish they would get a client out for the Geforce 7950 GX2 but from the rumors I have heard Nvidia uses a different method to render graphics which is not compatible with the F@H client. :(

This is amazing. After 4 WUs, each of which took me about 4 days to complete running the GUI client, I had about 760 points. Now, after completing just one additional WU, this time with the SMP client, which took me thirty-odd hours, I am up to over 2500 points.

I have not had to run any really processor-intensive applications yet, so I don't yet know how the SMP client will behave when another app wants a lot of CPU cycles.

HEY!!! I just tried out the Pause button in InCrease, and sure enough, the SMP client went down to zero CPU usage in the time it took Activity Monitor to reflect the change, and when I pressed Resume, it was back running in an equally-short time.

Anybody else reading this who uses a two-core iMac, I recommend InCrease.

Wow! I'm jumping up in the stats by leaps and bounds. It must be assigning me big WUs because it knows I'm running an iMac. I've done fewer WUs than the other people with similar numbers of points. And that's even though only my last two WUs have been with the SMP client.
