I'm always curious to learn the kind of things that other people carry around in their trunk. You know, the stuff you carry around 'cause you might need it on the road sometime. So, whatcha got back there? I'm also looking for advice, as a new car owner, as to the kinds of things I might need. Note, I live in SE Texas, so items that might help me, say, get out of a snow drift or drive on ice aren't particularly necessary.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(carleric @ May 18 2007, 01:10 PM) </div> I am thinking about that also. I saw a nice first aid kit for $10.00. I was thinking an air compressor and jumper cables. I have a roll of paper towels. A Grocery Holder 2 sided bin that stays rigid, but can fold flat for the hatch (so my stuff does not spill all over the back $10 Container Store. I have some lint free wipes in the glove box for the dash and screen, and black plastic things. I keep a beach towel back there
I could be tagged as a terrorist for what I carry in my truck! Kidding. I carry a subwoofer box with 2 12s in it. A big fluffy comforter, a nice pillow (I often sleep in the hatch area), a towel, a flashlight and a bottle of Meguires quick detailer.
There's a thread about this (although admittedly a rather old one). But my answer hasn't changed much (although I did replace the food and water in the emergency kit). I now have an iPod (although I rarely take it with me) and a bluetooth compatible cell phone (which I also rarely take with me). Also, the CDs have changed since my last posting.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(carleric @ May 18 2007, 01:10 PM) </div> Judging by the way the weather has been in recent years, I wouldn't be so sure. Tom
Just the usual. In addition to jack/spare and plastic milk crate: rain poncho, gloves, blanket, flares, flashlite, jumper cables, first aid kit, ice scrapper, spare fuses/bulbs, tow cable, sunshade, a few tools. For trips only: tool box. Winter trips: tool box + cable chains. Hmmmm..maybe I should look into magnesium tools?
I don't have a trunk. My Prius is a liftback. But I carry a couple of cans of V-8 juice and an umbrella. I also have an ornithopter which does not work very well at all, and a frisbee, and a synthetic chamois for when I wash the car. I have my cell phone for emergencies and a mini packet of kleenex, the cigarette-lighter-charger for the phone, and of course my Garmin StreetPilot, without which I'd be utterly lost almost every time I go downtown or any place I have not been. Spokane is a screwey city to drive in after logical grid-based Fargo with its numbered streets and avenues.
I have an emergency road kit, a can of Fix a Flat, some paper towels, a few plastic bags (for the dog!) and bottles of water (for the dog and me) and an umbrella.
I have junk, usually some work stuff, like bags of dog or cat food. But because I drive all the time I also have empty cups, wrappers, dog hair from the dogs I tote around, a blanket in case I get stuck somewhere that is really cold, CD's, gum, pens (usually on the floor where I can't get them when I need them), I never seem to have paper though. Various maps of the different places I have to go. That's about it!
My car is still new so I haven't trashed it yet. I bought a rubber trunk-liner that you cut-to-fit at Wal-Mart, and I'm glad because groceries and things spill back there. I carry a towel, a little whisk brush and dust pan combo, and my sunshields. Under the floor I have jumper cables and this heavy canvas thing I can use to cover the seats or the trunk in case I have to carry messy stuff, such as hay or a dog. I have a ziplock with first-aid type stuff in the left-hand secret trunk compartment. In a year it will probably be filled with all kinds of trash and junk. But so far, so good.
ice scraper/snow brush, umbrella, fleece blanket, tie-down straps, bungee cords, plastic bags and the Heatshield sunshade.
