I paid $30k in 2005 for my midlevel Prius.

    MSRP of $25-$26k
    Extended Warranty
Car Care packge $650 <.. bad move
    Tax and license etc.

Good to see people have more options now. There were only 2 Prii in Sacramento when I went to buy mine and there was still a waiting list. :(

Mine cost $26,343 out the door with all taxes licensing everything. It was the "base" model too however the 'base' model was actually the lowest package they sell in this area, which I think was package 3? So that was an extra 2 grand on top of the toyota.com true base model.

Expensive? Compared to what? A toyota corolla? Absolutely! A BMW 325 that I was contemplating? Hell no! Ability to drive in carpool lanes and get 450 miles before having to refuel 9 gallons of gas... Priceless.

OK - although I have shared this in a couple other threads I'll chime in here as well - my out the door cost for a 2007 package #4 was $26,500 (before the $1575 tax credit) from Piercey Toyota in San Jose last November, bought via Costco's buyer program. My Prius is now 6 months old and driving great, I'm seeing an average of a bit over 54 MPG over the past 5K miles, more than twice the mileage of the RSX I traded in.

With all the incentives being offered, someone buying now would probably be able to do better than I did (I'm not complaining, though! I think I did pretty well and was able to get the HOV sticker, too). Also, it is my understanding that there will still be a tax credit available until the end of the third quarter of 2007, although I think it has been reduced again. There have been many posts here about the tax credit amount and eligibility, worth looking into...

Wow! the Prius is getting expensive...

Mine was bought new in 04, package 4, with Homelink, Keyless entry/start, Vehicle alarm, Rear Wipers, Factory Floor Mats, plus all other standard equipment such as A/C, etc.... Total Price: $21,829.

I am seeing lots of cars in the 26k+ range which is beginning to be out of my budget. I wonder what the 09 Prius will cost?

I just bought mine on April 26. It is a metallic gray 2007, packet #2 for 23,500.00 out the door. This included all dealer fees, taxes, etc. So far I absolutely LOVE my prius. I have been reading and learning on this web site.

Without factoring in the tax credit ($1575 which I'm pretty sure I'll get in full based on a dry run in TurboTax) here are my numbers:

    2007 Package #2 (non-touring) - Silver Pine Mica
Bought in Feb 2007 at Putnam Toyota in Burlingame, CA

    $22300 - base price
    $2139 - taxes and fees

    $24439 - OTD

Someone always gets a better deal - especially at the time I bought when prices were falling and dealer stock was not moving so quickly. I do wish I had bargined a bit more agressively now but I'm happy with the price I got and uber-happy with the car I have now.

Just got mine, but was upside down in my other car by $2k,

Base was $23k, I prepaid my maintenance and 6 year warranty so I financed a bit more. I wish it was cheaper, but all in all I'm happy.

I just purchased my pirus last week, and loving it. I paid a little more because I wanted the navigation system. I paid 27500 (this is including tax, title, and license) for a package 5 with the upgraded leather seats & including the extra car mats. i believe the actual cost of the car is 25800. I think was a good price.
