Howdy pingman Refer, please to your Owner's Manual, Pages 140-143 which clearly explain the 'Accessories' mode which will alow you to listen to the sound system without having the Hybrid system on. There's a wealth of helpful information in the Owner's Manual. Some information is not to be found in the Owner's Manual. PriusChat forum is a superior resource for practical, helpful information. The short answer: Press the POWER button without pressing the brake pedal.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom 6850 @ May 17 2007, 04:10 AM) </div> I suspect the only other way is if you have EV mod installed. I use that to be sure the ICE doesn't go on, if I have a high enough SOC%. Dave M.
This is something I've wondered about. While sitting, waiting for the grandkids after school, I like to listen to the radio. I've been keeping the car running, thinking that any drain on the battery would be taken car of, with the engine kicking in whenever necessary. What about listening in accessory mode? Is there going to be battery drain. Can I run my battery down this way? Why is it better to use accessory mode? Thanks for your help.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(dulcimer @ May 20 2007, 10:28 AM) </div> You can run down the 12V battery in accessory mode. The radio consumes perhaps 2A max. and it's a 38 A-Hr battery. So you could probably listen for 14 hours before you'd have to worry about the car not starting. It charges right back up as soon as you enter ready mode (well, after some time). I don't think draining the battery is much of an issue. It's better to use accessory mode because you don't burn gasoline. If you need the A/C to run, then use ready mode but leave the transmission in Park (so the ICE will charge the traction battery). In ready mode the ICE can start and stop, burning gasoline.
