Okay gang, I hope you folks can bail me out of this one... I tried doing the "seatbelt beep shutoff procedure" and now the conventional engine (ICE) starts up after the start button is pressed - even while just sitting there! The engine runs constantly until I press the start button again. I KNOW this isn't normal operation, especially since this behavior began immediately after performing what appears to be a lobotomy on the computer by my apparently incorrect procedure. How can I get the engine back to the way it was? Right now I'm livid - it appears that my car has been screwed up at what was essentially the press of a button. In addition to this fiasco, I have to take the thing back in to get the driver's door speaker repaired due to a rattle within the panel. Before somebody thinks I'm just cranking it up too loud/have the bass boosted - no, that's not the situation. At low volume, the rattle is only in the driver's door... none of the other speakers have the problem.

In other words...you didn't change anything. You can actually check this by putting the car into neutral immediately after power on - the ICE will not initially start in neutral (trust me, I do this every morning when I coast down my long driveway).
I guess I'm asking if there's a "system reboot" to get things back to stock. Obviously I didn't do the beep shutoff procedure correctly, and whatever I did told the ICE to run constantly. Kinda defeats the purpose of a hybrid... Anything simple/basic to reset the system? EDIT: Sorry about my question - panic is my middle name when I start messing with things like this. You're absolutely right, and I thank you for your help. I assume it's pretty hard to screw up the car by trying the seatbelt beep shutoff, right? Thanks again... The car makes a lot of weird sounds and it takes a while to get familiar with what is normal. Don't sweat it.

For The Other Goose, remember, if you just want to sit and play with the accessories, push Start with your foot off the brake and it will enter Accessory mode with a yellow light on the Power Button. Another push starts the hybrid sytem, third push off.
sometimes if hte battery is low the engine will fire right up after startup, jsut drive the car, the car will not always be the same.
system reset is disconnect the 12 volt battery and leave the cable off for about 30 seconds. Then reconnect it and every thing is as Toyota shipped the car to the dealer.

Actually there is some nonvolatile memory in some of the ECUs. Notably, the skid-control / ABS controller. Otherwise, you'd have to go through the whole linear solenoid re-zeroing process every time you lost 12V. That ECU retains its history DTCs, too. . _H*
