I was driving home from the grocery store just now and the screen in my '05 prius wasn't showing me any data. The background was there but there was none of my current data. Not the average mpg not the little bar showing me my current mileage, not the number of miles driven since last tank. None of the buttons beeped when I pressed them and it was VERY slow to react. The screen showing the battery level and where energy is flowing did have the tires spinning but just a white block where the batter level should have been and no arrows showing where energy was going to or from. Couldn't turn the radio on. At one point it gave me a message about external device not connected (I think thats when I tried to turn the radio on). It did say bluetooth connection established though. (just my luck, the only thing working is the one frivolous thing that I don't really care about! Has anyone seen anything similar or have any suggestions? I did install an Ipod adapter a few months ago that involved taking the screen out. I guess I might take it off again and make sure all the wires are plugged in. Oh, and I did try turning the car off and back on a couple of times to no avail. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Matt A little update. I checked the connection on the screen. There are 4 connectors. 2 at the bottom and 2 at the top. There is a 3rd connector at the top that is empty. Should that be that way? When trying to access the climate control screen the message I get is "Check the connection of the A/C". When I press the audio button I just get the normal audio off screen and cannot turn the radio on. When I try to access the navigation system it says "The external system is not connected". Again, the screen is very slow to react to anything and it never beeps when pressing anything. Well, as mysteriously as it quit, it started working again. Not 100% sure why. I did unplug my DICE ipod adapter at one point, that's my best guess, but it's plugged in now and all is well. Oh well, I guess as long as it doesn't happen again... I would be interested in hearing any ideas anyone has or if this has happened to someone else.
Matt, you solved your problem by disconnecting the DICE iPod unit. The same thing happened in my 2005 Prius. I took it in to the dealer thinking "MFD Failure" and even gave him the TSB on how they fail. The needed the car longer that I could afford (I had a dentist appointment) so I said I'd bring it back. I vaguely remembered a post about the DICE unit causing this problem. Disconnecting the unit solved the screen problem. Reconnecting the unit didn't cause the problem to return. It is a rare intermittent problem. Every thing should be fine until it happens again sometime. I did get three 100MPG bars, but no other data display...
Thanks! Good to know a little more about what was going on. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mattmonsour @ May 12 2007, 03:22 PM) </div>
I have a 2004 that is having the same problem .. only I don't have a DICE or any other external hookups.
