AUX-POD for 2004 Prius?

sure would be great if it's integrated with the MFD! i won't be surprised if someone came up with one.. :mrgreen:

 

I'm not too concerned about the MFD integration, as I prefer using the actual iPod interface, I doubt anything done on the touch screen can replicate the ease of navigating a large collection quite like the iPod's touch scroll wheel.

I do plan on getting one of these to use with my #9 Prius, I've noticed that other people have either had problems or been told various interfaces will only work with non-#9 Prius's. I'm wondering if this is because they make the assumption that you still actually want to use the in-dash CD player.

I have no interest in using the CD player, so if its plugged in using Toyota's standard harness, I see no reason I couldn't just unplug that and plug in either the AUX-POD or the AUX-BOX. Anyone know if this is the case? Or does the #9 have some strange non-standard harness?

 

i believe (though i don't own one so i'm not 100% sure) that the ipod has a unique interface. i have a nomad jukebox zen, sort of similar without the cachet and the price, and it has a standard 1/8" output jack and USB... but there aren't enough of them that somebody will be designing a special interface for it.

 

That's why the purchase of either the AUX-POD or AUX-BOX is needed. The AUX-POD interfaces with 2nd generation iPod's, then plugs into the car's stereo unit via a harness. The AUX-BOX simply has stereo RCA jacks to connect any device with RCA output to your stereo.

All they need to get the music into the stereo, is the appropriate wiring harness. This post in another thread on this forum is from a guy who is selling his 6-disc CD changer that was installed in his Prius. He didn't have the #9 option I believe, so I'm not sure if this is the same that is in the #9. If it is, and if that is the standard Toyota wiring harness (a lot of if's), then the AUX-POD/BOX should work in the #9 Prius assuming you don't care about not having your 6-disc CD player plugged in.

 

I'd be happy with any aux input. Still waiting...

yea, like jonathan said ssiamerica.com has an aux input or if you want to control your ipod u can go to www.ipod2car.com same pricipal as aux in - hooks up to changer port in place of changer but lets you control the ipod from the prius radio.

 

CD Changer port available without JBL changer?

Does anyone know whether there is a CD changer port on the back of the head unit, if you ordered the package without the 6-CD changer?

Anyone know if the radio is "satellite ready", (i.e. has a satellite port beneath the CD changer port?

Yes, there is a CD changer port in the back of the single disc changer. I used it yesterday to plug in my aux-neo box for my non-Ipod mp3 player. I did not see a satallite specific port however. Check out the roady2 for XM it's already got the reciever in it and it's smaller than a deck of cards $129. Took me 30 mins to install.

You mentioned the installation took about 30min. You had to remove the radio to get at the CD-changer port? Where did you look to for instructions on how to do this?

Was thinking of buying the iPod2Car but I am not sure if I am up to install it myself. Or if my local Toyota dealer should/would install it for me.

Keep in mind that the part from Toyota needed ($18) is a Y-cable and may allow you to use both, though, as one guy said, you don't need a changer if you've got an MP3 player with you..?

ssiamerica sells the Neo box, which is what I purchased (and waited 3 mos for them to fix to work with the Prius). The original poster was asking about the PAC aux box, which looks very similar, but seems to be a different company. It is also cheaper, and available from www.cardomain.com.

BTW, I just released my 2004 Prius stereo accessory installation guide. It steps you through disassembling the dashboard to install devices like the Neo (aka ipod2car) or the PAC box.
