..... in 2009 I can't wait - maybe I'll start watching The Tonight Show instead of finding something else to fill my time between it & Conan when I can't sleep. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6115643/
I'd been reading trade press rumors that CBS was wooing O'Brien as a successor to Letterman. I was surprised to see Leno announce his retirement so early; I suspect NBC wanted to nail down O'Brien right now. Well, good for Conan; he'll be great for The Tonight Show.
How much do they have to pay him to guarantee that he won't have found something else he wants to do in 5 years? And HOW would they make that contract enforcable? Inquiring minds want to know.
There's probably some sort of penalty clause on both sides of the contract. Something on the order of $10 mil if NBC doesn't give Conan an 11:30 show, or a huge buyout if Conan goes to another network.
