My only disappointment so far (2 years): the Prius is helpless in snow or on soft ground, never mind real mud. It has Goodyear "Integrity" tires. Who can recommend all-season tires with traction? The wheels look so small -- has anyone tried larger ones?
I like Michelin MXV4+ Energy in the stock size (same as the Goodyear OEMs). The change in traction is dramatic, and much quieter. The MXV4s are low rolling resistance tires, so your mileage will not suffer. There are other options, and a quick search of this site will provide hours of reading on tires. Tom
This article on tire's rolling resistance would certainly help. The 5th page has a list of recommended tires. http://www.greenseal.org/resources/reports...gresistance.pdf Sizing up tires would reduce MPG. Your choice.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(c_fergus @ Apr 30 2007, 04:15 PM) </div> Yes, I got the goodyear triple tread and a larger size, here is the post: http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=28940&hl= I drove all winter in rain ice and snow and I am very happy with them. They are expensive..... keep a eye out for a sale.
I also went with Triple Treads (195/60/15) and am happy with them. I also considered the Michelin X-Radial that are available exclusively at Costco. I went with TTs because reviews showed they were superior on ice and snow.
