I have this crazy idea that I can convince my wife to let me ditch the family SUV (my daily driver) for a second Prius. We've got two young kids, but I've done a lot of reading here about the Prius as a family car and I think it can be done. She loves hers, and I really want one too. So I say why not?

So, how many of you have two Prii parked in the garage?

Only one fits in the garage, but we have two. On longer trips, we occasionally put the 12-year old in the front seat to prevent bloodshed, but all four of us are happy to be saving gas and doing our part for the air. BTW, we chose Prii because they have enough room for four full-size people. Good luck. We're very happy with the choice. (BTW, we occasionally rent a mini-van if we want to haul a bunch of kids for a party. Your gas savings should cover this!)

Does a Prius and a Jetta TDI count?

That's what I'm trying to figure out!

It would seem that if you already have one, you know if it'll work for what you want. I wish you all the luck in ditching the SUV for something more reasonable. I only wish you had something other than a fossil-fuel burning vehicle to chose from!

We've got a 2004 and a 2005 Prius, but we've got five vehicles for two drivers. If we only had two cars they probably wouldn't both be Priuses, as I'd want a little more versatility, but for three cars I think two Priuses would work. Wife actually has her eye on a hybrid Camry though, guess after three years the Prius is proving a little too downmarket for her.

'04 and '06, saving twice the gas.

oldest daughter may buy '04 if I get an '08; a 3-Prius family

also owned an '01 and '02, but those were separate warmups.

    go fer it!

Yes, we have 2 Priuses in our garage; both are 07's, just a couple of months old. My wife and I got one for ourselves first, and shortly after that my parents bought one for our daughter, who will be commuting to college next year. They are great cars and I've never owned a car that I've enjoyed driving more.

    2nd car a Prius? . . . no, it's a RX-400h Hybrid. Some loads can't be handled by the Prius. Can I still get a gold star? :p

My wife and I are definitely considering a second Prius. Although we might go for a HyCam to replace her Camry in a couple of years.

Of course, our kids are grown and our needs are different from yours in that regard. Still, I don't see why not.

I'm working on converting the wife from her Sienna to another Prius. She loves the Prius, but doesn't get to drive it to much as I know she will kill my MPG. :)

Its harder now because she knows of the Toyota hybrid minivan existing overseas, so she is all hopeful Toyota comes around and brings it here or makes a Sienna hybrid.

im on my 2nd Prius, my dad just bought one on thurs, and when my SO car is ready (the car is, but she is not) we will get either an electric (HOPING!!) or a hybrid and if its the latter, it will most certainly be a hybrid. and my SO's parents commute 25 miles one way and are shopping for a Prius as a supplement vehicle since BOTH of them drive SUV's.

now you already have one so its not hard to determine what your off the top gas savings are going to be. here gas is $3.12 and rising and typically goes up until memorial day, so im figuring probably about $3.30 or so... it doesnt take much driving to make up a LOT of that new car payment.

We have been driving a Prius each since September 2004 when we returned tp Canada from a stint overseas. I had my mind set on one and pre-ordered so it was ready when we got home. My husband thought he'd pick up a second hand something once he was ready to buy. Within ten days he had ordered one for himself. They are both silver and suit us well. We find the cars fit carseats and the trappings of our grandchildren when needed. Never had trouble transporting lumber for DYI projects and have generous neighbours so that we've never actually had to rent anything larger.
Our Britsh nephew was very impressed that we were driving a Prius but thought driving two kind of cancelled out the good we'd done buying the first! (They are both Millenium Silver so there are folk who don't realise we have one each  )

Yuppers! I have a 2006 and my wife just bought a 2007. In addition, my daughter has a 2006.

All that being said, I must admit that we have a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited for bad weather and off roading and a Chevy Silverado extended cab 4X4 for hauling boats and carrying kayaks. Our primary vehicles however are the Prii. I put on about 15K per year in my Prius and my wife puts on about 6K communting to work. So far we have had zero problems with our Prii.

We have two, same color and everything. Thus far, with almost a year of ownership, and our almost 2-year-old, we have not yet encountered anything we needed to haul but couldn't.

My wife drove a Sienna, but she had Prius Envy. Now there's no problem.
