As I understand it, the Prius CD player can read CD titles, artist and track information... if the CD has been created with the CD Text burned in. Unfortunately, most don't put this in. However, you can burn an audio CD with this information if you wish... if you have CD burning software that allows you to do this. Unfortunately, I've tried to packages I have -- the PC iTunes program from Apple, and an reliable but old burning software package -- and have had no luck getting the titles in. Other PriusChat threads have pointed to Nero as a good SW solution for this. Anyone have any alternative packages? BTW, I'm less interested in "getting the information" automatically off the web -- I can use CDex, or fill it in myself -- as I am just finding a package that has a "CD Text" option for burning Audio. I was really surprised to find that iTunes doesn't do this...
Sorry, can't help other than to confirm that Nero does work perfectly for CD-TEXT in the Prius. Any cd burning application that supports burning CD-TEXT should work however. Dave

Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl Easy CD Creator 5 platinum says it will do CD-Text if you burn 'disc-at-once'. There's a box to check. I've checked the box. I have NOT been able to successfully get it to burn CD text. I use Nero (came with my DVD-burner) and it works great! Not sure what version, but I want to say all of NERO products do the CD-Text. So, I'm now learning the ins and outs of NERO! Love my Prius!
nero is and has been right along light years ahead of ez cd creator. and with the latest version it's even got a better interface, or at least as good, which was always it's only weakness if you were not a computer geek.
Thanks to all of you for the info! I need to update my CD-burning software anyway; maybe it's time to switch to Nero, or something with CD-text support. The package I bought previously was sold to another company, and then disappeared. I wasn't particularly impressed with Nero a couple of years ago -- though anything beats Roxio's god-awful software. And it does seem to be the burning SW of choice for those who do a lot of it.
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl The combination of X-CD-Roast and cdrecord works perfectly for me. It has all the nice stuff - CDDB integration, CD-Text, GUI/CLI - and loads of stuff I don't need but you might. Author accepts donations, but it's free software.
Nero is the best in my experience. Anyone else remember the days with EZ CD Creator when you had to convert your mp3s to wavs, then burn them? No so "EZ", if you ask me.
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl I've had great success with: Easy CD-DA Extractor from: http://www.poikosoft.com/ CD-TEXt plus a bunch of other great features. Peter Miami, FL USA
I thought I'd wait and read some more comments, but found that Fry's Outpost.com site had the deluxe Nero Ultra 6.3 for ~$55 -- with a $20 rebate added on if you switched over from Roxio Easy CD 6 or Easy Media Creator 7, Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD (the new incaration of my old burning SW), or Nero 5.56. Seemed cheap enough to go for it, so I did. Thanks for the suggestions, all!
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl I can't resist: It works great on a Mac. Toast, iTunes, whatever. Maybe iTunes would do it on Windows too, I do not know. The price it right.
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl i use Nero too. no problems at all for me..
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl No, iTunes under Windows doesn't save the title information using CD-Text. My own experiments, as well as some Googling around, confirmed that. I'm fairly Mac-ignorant these days, but from what I read on the Mac newsgroups, the Mac iTunes won't save CD-Text titles, either. However, Toast reportedly will definitely save CD-Text titles. Does that match the experiences of other Mac users?
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl Do new store-bought CD's have CD Text built in?
I was suprised that 3 I bought last year didn't have it. (Haven't tried the others -- I don't buy a lot of CDs.)
Re: What CD burning software produces Prius-readable CD titl Matches my experience with Toast 6 vs. the latest iTunes. Louie
