Seat Belt Chime is annoying

Search for the Back Up Chime Hack. For 2007, I am pretty sure is kills all interior chimes.

 

You have to kill each beep separately.

Turning off BEEPS

1. Power on the car to IG-ON or READY. IG-ON will do for this purpose.
2. Using the Trip/ODO button, set the Trip/ODO display to ODO - not Trip A or Trip B
3. Power off the car.
4. Now power the car to READY (brake on). This is required so that step 6 works correctly.
5. Immediately, within 6 seconds of powering on, press and hold the Trip/ODO button for 20 seconds or more. Do not release, just hold it for 20 seconds, then
6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO button, shift the "gear" selector from P to R, then back to P. Now release the Trip/ODO button.
7. If the last step was successful, "b on" or "b off" should be displayed in the location where the Trip Odometer or Odometer is normally displayed. "b on" is beep on, and "b off" is beep off.
8. Press Trip/ODO to toggle the mode to the one you want.
9. Now power the car off to exit the toggle mode.
10. Power the car on to READY and confirm the reverse beep status by shifting to R. The beep should not be audible if "b off" was selected, and should be audible if "b on" was selected.

The above procedure turns off the back up beep. To turn off the driver seat-belt beep, instead of shifting in step 6, latch your seat-belt. This takes some contortions since you have to do it with your left hand since your right hand is still holding the ODO button. I prepared by pulling the seat-belt out all the way and holding the strap in my teeth so there would be no tension. To turn off the passenger seat-belt beep, at step 6 have the passenger sitting in the passenger seat latch that seat-belt buckle.

I'd much rather be picking windshield glass out of my face than listening to that annoying beep too. Dude, buckle up. The beep won't hurt you, but bouncing off things inside the car will.

 

The backup hack worked for me. took me two tries to get it though

Wearing a windshield; now THAT'S uncomfortable!

In all honestly, I've disabled both seatbelt chimes and that terribly annoying "the car is in reverse" beeper, too. But, really, it'll be that one time when you don't buckle up that you get in an accident, or so it seems.

Interesting. I drive a 2004, and the alarm does not go off when I have freight weight in the passenger seat. The seat belt light comes on on the dash, but no alarm. As for disabling the alarm, I won't. I don't go anywhere without buckling up, and if you ride in my car, you buckle up as well, or walk.

*shrugs* I do. I've put two grocery bags on it and had the thing beeping at me to buckle up. Ditto with putting my laptop bag and tool bag on the seat as well. Sure it stops after a while but the light still flashes on the dash. Toyota should have put a sensor on the back of the seat as well to see pressure in both spots. :mellow:

Well other then the fact that the back seat is folded down to hold all the boxes that contain the parts for my job, which is routinely filled all the way up. Maybe because when I get out of the car I would rather just grab my stuff and go instead of getting out of the car, opening up the back. Grab my stuff. Go back to the front door, lock the car, and go. That's assuming I'm also not shoehorned into a parking spot which is even more fun. Am I being lazy? I don't think so. I just don't think I should need to treat the prius any different then any of the other cars I've owned in the past. Back seat is a work around, not a solution. Also I work out of my car.

I'm finding more and more of these quirks on this car. Nothing that really kills the experience. Just more a.. <_<

One of my brothers imagines the sound of such an alarm as the voice of a doctor saying that he will look a lot better if he doesn't go through the windshield.

A friend was in a relatively minor accident. She didn't have her seatbelt on and had to have surgery for a cut on her forehead.

My wife was nearly in an accident years ago. A road narrows to one lane in each direction. Some inebriated college students didn't notice that and hit a woman nearly head-on. That woman commented wearing her seatbelt saved her from any injury. I think that accident was probably settled out of court. The inebriated driver came up to that woman and said, "Did you see what happened? I sure as heck didn't." Later, when the police put him in their car, he was asking his friend to join him, thinking he was getting a ride home from the police.

I have yet to disable the chime for seatbelts, and don't plan to. I usually have it on before starting the car.

 

I live out in the country, with a long driveway. There are no side streets and no traffic. I stop at my mailbox and undo my seatbelt to get the mail. I don't put my seatbelt back on to drive on my own driveway. I turned off the seatbelt beeps a long time ago. I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt on the public road. I latch it before starting the car.

To each his own. Just don't be sanctimonious.

I'm the exact same way. If your belt isn't on, you aren't in my car.

If you are gliding at 12 mph or under, there is no seatbelt beep. Not exactly for cruising speed but at least you can glide into a parking spot belt unhindered.

 

We buckle up before the Prius is powered up, so we never hear the alarm.

 

Step One: Buckle up
Step Two: Put Foot on Break
Step Three: Push power button

Yeah, I find mine doesn't chime if fasten my seatbelt.

You should always wear a seatbelt, makes it easier to find the body.

On my 2005, this was correct; on my new 2007, when I disabled the reverse beep, it disabled the seatbelt chimes as well.

I always wear my seatbelt, but I don't need a chime to remind me, just as I don't need a beep to tell me that I'm in reverse

 

we bought our prius with 1 mile on it and the drivers side seat belt beep never has worked, but the passenger side beeps when the dog sits there, or a bag of groceries.

So how do you turn it on if it was never turned off?
