I will be picking up my new 2005 Prius w/BC option (#9) in the next few weeks ... I bought this car from a dealer in Alaska, but will be taking delivery in Seattle .... however, I live in Los Angeles and will be driving the car there immediately upon taking delivery. My question is what region(s) do the Nav disk(s) cover? Is "the" disk included with the BC package (#9).... or is this something that you must buy from the dealer for whatever region you need? Or does the disk cover the whole US mainland? If you need to buy a disk ... what do these cost? If I bought a car that was intended to go to an Alaska dealership ... and if there are several disks available to cover the whole US mainland ... what disk would I expect to receive with this car and what's the total coverage area for this disk? Should I buy a disk locally in Los Angeles if I in fact need to do so ... or do all dealers have all disks available to cover whatever region? Thanks,
You don't have to buy any disks. The NAV data comes on a DVD (included in the BC and BG packages) and covers the 48 US States as well as Canada.
vapor_perl, Did you actually get a DVD with the car? Is there a DVD actually running in the car for NAV? Do you know what the update plan will be? All info greatly appreciated!
The DVD is in the NAV unit and all set to go. Since your car is being shipped to a different region you might have to select a different region on the main NAV page, but that's no big deal. We're all waiting for word on an update.
I don't think the up date should be the 200+ dollars that have been quoted, and I have what I think is a good reason. My iQue update cost $75. It is very similar in function and scope, different in details though. Still not sure which one I like better. Yesterday in a moment of weakness I went looking for a fast food restaurant. I noticed that the little logos were on the map. Nick the corporations for the up date. I don't want to pay for advertising. I don't get that on the iQue and they can do it for $75 a update the people doing the DVD for Toyota need to do at least as well. They are obviously making money at both ends. :cussing: :guns:

I asked because (as an example) in my 2000, 996 Porsche, this system uses 5 or 6 different regional disks which must be purchased from the dealer at about $ 120 ea ..... glad to hear that Prius comes with one, 48 state system all set to go. When I first spoke with my Alaska dealer in August , they told me GPS wasn't available up there, so they only ordered cars with at best, the # 7 package, and none with Nav ..... This was for their 2004 models ..... I didn't understand this statement because I know GPS works worldwide .... but I'll assume based on your replies, what they meant was the Prius Nav didn't offer road info for the Alaska region. This dealer is now getting their 2005 models starting this week, and what with the fewer option packages available, they are receiving the BC (#9) package in their 2005 models ... that's when they told me they could now provide a car with the Nav option (BC package). They seem to have a few 2005 models available with almost no wait. Another bonus .... if you register the car in Alaska..... (no sales tax in Alaska) and $ 236 for two years registation. And when you transfer title to your home state you won't have to pay sales tax there, only registration. Results in a savings of about 10% under MSRP considering all costs.

I just bought a 2008 prius touring. The navigation says I must input a dvd. Also, I cannot sync my cell phone, or garage door opener. Is this because of no dvd, no navigation?
