Most Compatible Bluetooth Phone

I just got a Sony Ericsson T637 with ATT. I figured out how to
"connect" to my Prius yesterday, even made a few phone calls.
Getting called didn't work, but I later realized that my phone
was in silence mode. I even got in the car once and got the
"connected to bluetooth" message.

But then I connected to my jabra headset, I'm not sure if that
is relevant but afterwards I could not connect to the car again.
I tried deleting the connection and recreating it, deleting all
the devices on the phone, etc. I would get the car into the
mode where it is waiting to accept a connection, and then get
the phone looking for a device, but it wouldn't find the car.

Very frustrating. For that matter the jabra headset was pretty
frustrating. My laptop would pick up interference, the connection
was sometimes bad. (Can you hear me now?) Also the buttons
on the headset were hard for me to find and work. Some of that
will come with practice, if I give it a chance.

 

My Sony-Ericsson T616 on Cingular has been fine. The sound quality has been acceptable to me and my family. I wish it would display the name/number of the incoming caller on the car's display. I think I only get the number if the car isn't moving, and I never see the caller's name. Nonetheless, the connection is quick and has been very reliable. No real complaint.

 

Besides that little bit of pilot error (dealing with connecting to more
than one device) I have not had any problem with mine. It doesn't
ring through the speaker, but it does shut down the audio, which
is a good cue that there is an incoming call. With just a cell phone
I usually don't hear the phone over the ambient noise.

Moto V600 works great with the car. Had to switch from Verizon to T-Mobil in order to get compatable phone. BTW, does anyone know if the new T-Mobile Blackberry 7100t work with the Prius?

I have a Nokia 6820 that I just set up with my Prius. It took less than a minute. I haven't been able to upload contact info yet. Anyone have any experience with this phone?

 

I have a 6820, when you transfer phone numbers it's one number at a time, it's not difficult once you've done a few.
I don't have the manual in front of me, so this may not be 100%.
In the Prius - under settings select the transfer.
You'll see a message that says something about starting the transfer from the phone.
On the 6820 select your contact, under options select Send Business Card, then you'll see a sub menu - choose the bluetooth option. It takes a few seconds till it connects. Once the Prius has received the number it'll display a message.

I have a Motorola E815 through Verizon. Sound quality is excellent only you have to make sure the phone is back of the nav screen, ie towards the back of the car. Could not enter the phone book due to Verizon blockage of file transfer, however, went on Ebay, bought a non-Verizon Sony Ericsson T616 phone for $46.00 and use it to make the phone book entries. Worked great. But, we do love the E815 phone.

 

I have a Motorola V-551 with Cingular.

It works very well with the Prius system; silences the radio on send and receive, and connects flawlessly when the phone is turned on.

I uploaded numbers from the V551's phonebook (albeit one number at a time) with little hassle. However, the entry for my home number in the version of the phone book available while moving (there are three sets of Quick Dial numbers) doesn't show the name or number; perhaps that is a safety/security feature in case the car is stolen.

Since Verizon is a more reliable service here, I wish Verizon sold a phone that uploads the phone book as well as the Motorola. However, so far, the only Bluetooth phone I'm aware of that Verizon offers - the LG VX 7000 - does not transfer phone numbers from the address book as easily or as well, according to previous threaded discussions on this site.

BTW - The V551 does not ring through the Prius sound system either.

Actually, the VX7000 does not have Bluetooth. Verizon currently offers the following Bluetooth phones:

Motorola E815 (v710 has been discontinued)
LG VX8100 & VX9800
Samsung i730 & a950
Treo 650
BlackBerry 7250
Audiovox XV6600

Of the foregoing, the i730, 650, and XV6600 reportedly have PB transfer capability with the Prius. The others do not, at least not at this point.

So, in order to populate the phonebook in the Prius, Verizon customers need to get one of the aforementioned BT phones (which, btw, are all PDA phones), get a compatible, cheapo handset (e.g. certain Sony and Siemens models), or use a BT-enabled laptop as an intermediary.

 

I have a Motorola V551 Anyone with bluetooth has picked up this phone because of my good recommendations. It works well.. very well. I've had a few problems.. but out of hundreds.. maybe thousands of phone calls. it's only a hand full of problems.

 

I also have a Nokia 6820. Toyota lists it as a compatible phone, and it connected so easily I had mine paired and working before I left the dealer's lot the day I took delivery.

To your question about which rings, the Prius mutes the audio system and both the phone and the Prius audio "rings". No problem hearing it at all.

I haven't tried loading my directory into the Prius yet.

 

My Treo 650 with Sprint works VERY well, and yes, it will "ring through" the car as well as phone, I can answer from the "talk" button on steering wheel perfectly. Also was easy to upload phone book, so when a call comes in, my call -ID works on screen as well (thanks to a tip I got on this site!!)

 

These issues aren't the Prius' fault. It's the way Bluetooth is designed. It will only auto connect to the last connection. So - when you connected to the Jabra headset the Prius was no longer top of the list of things to connect to on your phone. If you force the connection in the Prius again I'd bet your Jabra won't connect without going thru a manual connect again.

Frustrating I agree, but that's the way Bluetooth works...

 

The new Cingular 8125(HTC Wizard), works very well with the Prius..all callers have commented on how good the voice quality is..phonebook transfer works one entry at a time. The only issue is the 8125 is a smartphone running MS mobile applications, unless you plan to run the bluetooth interface 24/7, you active and de-active with one click via the com mgr, as you enter/exit the car.
