I am joining this happy family by taking delivery of my Prius next week. The dealer tries to sell me paint protection (for about $350). I assume this is a standard Toyota treatment.

Does anybody have experience with this? Is it worth it?

(I am usually not too good at taking care of paint jobs after the initial honeymoon... although I think this particular honeymoon may last longer.)

Not really an answer to your question exactly but it may help.

I saw this on EBAY wondering if this is any good it would be a great paint protectant if works.

Worthless...no matter how hard the dealer pushes it. Don't be surprised if they take off $100 to pressure you...still worthless.

When our dealer tried to sell us this treatment he said includes one free waxing of the car for the next 5 years.

Yes, it's worth it. To the dealer, that is, but not to you. Say "no thanks".

Shrink wrapping the car will save the painted finish. Ask the dealer to leave the protective film in place from transit. The best you can do is wash and wax the car.

I don't see how the film is going to stop a ding as that is a deformation of the metal.

Welcome to PriusChat, CO2 miser. Congratulations on your new CO2 minimizing car. I agree with the others that the dealer paint protection is not worth $350. Search for some threads on waxing, detailing, and Zaino if you want to protect your paint with minimum effort.

    Thanks for the many replies.
They confirm what I thought but I'd rather have second opinions...

For about $100 or so you can purchase a Zaino kit, they now have an all in one product. About 4 hours of your time in a nice shady area or garage you can put on a much better finish than the dealer ever could and enjoy a deep glossy shine for a long time. I just gave my silver one its first coat of Z2, 5 more to go.
