And yet another week goes by, with DICE ignoring their problems.

Excuse me? I got back to you - we had no issues with our tester radio - which is the same as yours. It's the fact that you have a 3rd gen iPod, but as I said in the PM I'll exchange your DICE unit as well if you like. We plan on removing full support on the 3rd gen soon since Apple has stopped updating it as well. Further and further software revisions will take us away from the 3rd gen.

    No, not really.
No, you didn't. The last PM I received from you was on April 3, when you asked me to "put the DICE unit into Simple Mode and see if it still has the errors." Doing so made it completely unusable, as I told you. I heard nothing further.
Now, there is a huge load of BS. The DICE is advertised, marketed and documented as working with the 3G iPod. Instead of facing up to YOUR problems, you blame Apple. Sorry, you're making an accessory for the iPod, Apple's not making an accessory for the DICE.

DICE's warranty is clear: "DICE Electronics products carry a one year limited warranty that protects you from defects in material and workmanship of products sold by DICE Electronics or its authorized agents, distributors and dealers." The unit I have has a defect in workmanship, which makes it unsuitable for it's claimed purpose, and makes it not work as documented.

Yes, under the terms of the warranty, send me a working unit.

DICE Employee talking: OK, please PM me with your contact and mailing info and I'll reply back with an RMA.
Also for the record, you may want to check out our support page, it does say that the 3g iPod is not fully compatible. I did not blame Apple, I said that to inform you that Apple has since stopped updating the unit, and that as we adapt newer and newer code, it takes us further away from being able to fully use the 3rd gen.

Vagabond talking: Quit being rude. I've been nothing but nice to you and I'm trying to help you and the guy you linked me to. Everyone else who has had problems I've been able to help efficiently and effectively because they were calm and worked with me the best we could.

Contact info is in the case on the DICE web site, which has been ignored for 4 weeks. You have the case number. Feel free to issue a call tag so UPS can come pick up the old one if you want it back.

DICE: "Supported iPods, 3G, Limitations: Must have FW version 2.3 Does not support Albums and Chapters. FF/RW does not work from radio."

The issues involved are unrelated to the documented limitations.
What, by calling me a liar? Any rudeness on my part is a simple reflection of increasing frustration at DICE's non-responsiveness, attempts to divert blame, and broken promises.

Hi Nick/Vagabond. I received the replacement DICE unit. It works perfect. Everything works, controls on steering wheel, text on the screen including options 1 - 6 and all appears to function as expected. I'm sending the old unit back at lunch time (with ATTN Nick - RMA return) on a paper inside.

Now if we could only control the iPods through voice control. Just (sort of) kidding.

Thank you for great service and being responsive.

(Background: The first DICE unit I received did not show text and did not show the 6 CD "buttons" on the screen. I sent a personal message to Vagabond through this chat board with my information and he sent me out an new unit. The new unit works.)

Good, thanks for that. Somehow a bad batch went out. I tested all our remaining stock and everything is working fine. Since then we're doing our best to test each and every unit that is shipped.

    Vagabond,
I suspect you are right about a bad batch. I have received one of the new firmware units, and it misbehaves like the others described here (no text, etc.). I am about to send back the one it replace and it to DICE, so that it can be replaced yet again with hopefully a working unit. If there is any way you can help follow up, that would be great!

Yes, I have a single long open ticket. My last post was to let them know I was sending everything back. I will try one more unit, and if that does not work, I will probably throw in the towel. But I am somewhat hopeful, because it sounds like they are finally doing some QA (testing before shipping) that you seem involved in.

installed my unit I recently got from Dice this weekend. Installation was smooth, though lots of dash disassembly, and I installed the plug in my cd holder box.

Anyway, I have been trying to glean from the manual and from this thread which setting to use and how to actually work with the thing. I left it at the default CDC mode, which from what i read in this thread seems to be the best. When turned on it started playing what I had it on before. I however have absolutely no control of the ipod from the car (yes it is in DICE mode). I the prius on CD mode and the sound comes through, but track-up and down have no effect, and those are the only controls I have. The CD1-6 buttons do not appear on the screen, the only options are the RND RPT etc which don't do anything, no disk or track controls appear. No text at all appears - it just says track 1. I can switch to different tracks, up to 1000, using the steering wheel control, but this doesn't do anything - just keeps playing. I can control it using the ipod itself.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Curt

Whoops, I was just re-reading, and maybe I was mis-interpreting some of the posts. Now I am thinking I should set it in SAT, is this agreed as the best mode for 07 nav?

CD mode doesn't work in years 06-07. Use MP3 or SAT mode. If I can recall correctly, the 2nd bank of DIP switches should be DOWN UP for MP3 and DOWN DOWN for SAT.

Yea, the manual needs some love. I'll see what I can get done.

I prefer MP3 mode, but that's just me. Try em both to taste.

Frustrated! I thought I could just add a CD/MP3 player, but the radio I bought was misleading and turned out to be the same radio that is in the 07 but with a different part number.

So If I got this device in my base unit, which IPOD would work? I have about 6 G total of MP3's on DVD and CD's. Or if someone knows of a way to add a MP3 CD player I would appreciate it. Having a few MP3 CD's around is fine by me.

The 4GB Nano that is sold now for $199 or so, is that the 4th gen? I cant seem to find that listed in the description. What is included and what is not that is needed to get my music to it and for it to work with the dice?

BTW, the place I bought the radio from is going to take it back since the description was a bit misleading and wants to make it right. :)

No, the 4th gen was sold years ago. The iPod you saw for $199 is a 2nd Gen Nano.

All you need is an iPod and a DICE kit. The DICE kit has all the cables to make it work.

So unfortunately my experience has not changed after trying sat and mp3 modes. Same behavior, different screen. On both sat and mp3 it shows up under the satellite icon in the upper left (under CDC it shows up as cd2). But in all three modes the ipod plays but there is absolutely zero other control available and no information displayed onscreen. I have left the car off for hours each time I have made the change and have also tried unplugging the dice unit. Any ideas? 2007 prius with nav.

    Thanks.

You'll need to run a progam called iTunes on your computer. This is the program you put your music into (think of it as a storage place for music), and it is with this program that you transfer music to your iPod. iTunes also lets you download and buy music on the internet. It does a lot of nice things including my favorite, it turns your computer into a jukebox, which is handy if you like to listen to music while on the computer.

I believe you can download iTunes for free (check the www.apple.com site). The non-Mac version can be a little buggy (or so I hear), but the Mac version is rock solid. Most people have no problems once they get it all worked out.

I have Itunes already, I bought season 2.5 of BSG last year, was pretty cool to watch it on my laptop, and then connected it to my TIVO and recorded them to that with full 5.1. I need to revamp my playlist as it is screwed up and the songs are all over the place.

I picked up a Nano from Walmart for $197, the Blue gen2. I have it loaded and it is charging now. Are there any issues with 1.1.2?
Once I get the refund for the radio that I paid through paypal, I can pickup the DICE with that.
