MTV’S “Pimp My Ride†and the nation’s leading biodiesel producer, Imperium Renewables, have partnered to turn an American classic into a Green Machine, and California Governor Schwarzenegger, stopped by to help celebrate the achievement. As part of a special Earth Day episode airing April 22nd, the "Pimp My Ride" crew cut gave an ecological conversion to a 1965 Chevy Impala so the car can run on pure biodiesel. Imperium founder, John Plaza, and CEO, Martin Tobias, are joining MTV is delivering the message that going green doesn’t mean having to sacrifice fun or performance, and the result is an 800 horsepower biodiesel “Clean Machine†that achieves a claimed 25 miles per gallon. For this episode, "Pimp My Ride" invited The Governator to help promote the environmental message. "You can have an engine that's fast and furious and still reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 30 to 40 percent," Schwarzenegger declares for the cameras. "This is the future." "Once pilloried for driving his Hummer (he now has hydrogen and biodiesel models), Schwarzenegger is out to prove that environmentalism and hedonism can coexist," reports Karen Breslau of Newsweek. "That was the point of doing the show," he says to Breslau. "To show people that biofuel is not like some wimpy feminine car, like a hybrid. Because the muscle guys, they have this thing: 'I don't want to be seen in the little, feminine car'." The special episode will air on Earth Day, April 22 as part of the thinkMTV (www.think.mtv.com) year long, 12-step campaign “Break The Addiction,†designed to engage, empower, and educate young people to make smart, everyday choices that both improve their life and help to curb the impact of climate change and preserve the environment. The episode will also air on MTV2 and MTV Tr3s, and appear on MTV as the kick-off of a “Pimp My Ride†Sneak Peek marathon featuring all new episodes of the MTV hit series beginning at 1pm ET/PT on Saturday, April 22nd. I'm not a mun if I donut have a big unjin under my hud. 800 HP & 25 MPG Sounds like a severe case of testosterone poisoning to me.
I'm interested to see how this pans out. MTV is such a learning medium for a lot of kids and usually it is negative. A few weeks agoI saw a commercial for eco-friendly hemp clothing. Was pretty wild to see a pro-environment ad on MTV. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Wiyosaya @ Apr 10 2007, 07:18 AM) </div> What funny is that if they do this with a diesel then 800HP translates to around 690-700rwhp and about 1700+RWTQ. Diesels are crazy TQ producers. BUT the engine bay and front suspension of a regular car cannot hold a full size diesel engine so they must be doing something tricky.
MTV = Sneaky way for people to brainwash the people of tomorrow. Prius a feminine car? Hum.. maybe geeky at worst.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(chinito77 @ Apr 10 2007, 12:52 PM) </div> Remember he had like 3 H1 in the 90s and was still trying to say he was green.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(chinito77 @ Apr 10 2007, 12:52 PM) </div> I guess I'll have to go tell that to the guy in the souped up Accord that I beat from a standstill at a red light, and he was trying. I'm sure that the "fact" the Prius is a feminine car would please him even more than he was. IMHO, the Governator should check the oil under his values. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(IAO @ Apr 10 2007, 01:10 PM) </div> Yeah, he probably was green...from choking on all the fumes.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Arroyo @ Apr 10 2007, 09:08 AM) </div> What an idiot. He didn't say Prius, he said HYBRID...way to promote green cars.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Arroyo @ Apr 10 2007, 10:08 AM) </div> This looks like a clear illustration of the evils of illegal steroid use among body-builders. He wants to promote lower CO2 emissions while at the same time perpetuating the stereotype that manly men drive gas hogs. What an idiot. Harry

Applaud!!! Bio Diesel really is the way to go, not Ethanol. Yes you can fit a diesel in a car, they dont have to be big nice person I6 Cats anymore. A small V6 diesel can produce tons of power very efficiently. Gone are the days of mechanical injectors and timing pumps, today's diesel are all computer controlled including the injectors. Check out the bio diesel facts regarding emission output, you may be surprised. If in doubt, check out a VW TDI, 42 MPG on average, and it isnt a hybrid. Today I had to go pickup feed for my horse, so I drove my truck for the first time in weeks. After driving the prius for two weeks, I hit the throttle in my truck the way I did in the prius and damned near snapped my neck! I forgot how much power it puts out. The truck weighs in at ~8000#, and gets between 15 and 20 MPG, and puts out fewer emissions than my '01 Crown Vic. The show might be a bit overboard, but it is in the right direction. Bio Diesel puts out considerably more energy than it takes to make it, unlike Ethanol. Compare the energy yield for Ethanol to Bio D, E 34%, BIOD 220%, Gasoline -19.5%, diesel -15.7%. Which fuel would you choose? BTW, bio D exhaust smells like french fries.
I think diesels are going to be the only way to get mainstream to get the kind of fuel economy that we all want them to get.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Topgas @ Apr 15 2007, 08:10 AM) </div> All it takes is educating people. GM had a hand in turning people off of Diesel in the 80's with their convoluted approach by turning a gas engine into a diesel. If I could, every thing I own would have a diesel in it. Currently only my Kubota and F350 are diesels.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ACD @ Apr 15 2007, 06:21 PM) </div> I wonder when someone will finally produce a hybrid (like the Prius or the Insight) that utilizes a small diesel vice a gas engine.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ozyran @ Apr 16 2007, 08:00 PM) </div> When they do, as long as it is a decent sized vehicle, I will be in line for one.
