<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tumbleweed @ Jan 7 2006, 03:38 PM) </div> I thought all Toyotas had this feature, My 97 Camry had that too.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TomorrowMatters @ Feb 18 2007, 11:36 AM) </div> Nope. Up here in Canada, the Yaris (both versions), Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 don't have it. Base Highlanders don't but Limited models do.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom 6850 @ Feb 17 2007, 11:17 AM) </div> Yeah, that's probably BS. Mercedes was notorious for telling people that you had to have things as factory options. Not the case with MB at least... Someone just needs to figure it out, like the JDM dipping mirrors, etc.
I, too, was EXTREMELY disappointed about the Prius not having the Auto-Light feature. I traded in my '05 Corolla (which has that feature standard, even on the basic CE model) and my husband has that feature on his 05 Matrix. I was under the impression that's a standard Toyota feature, and did not find out it's not on the Prius until after I bought the car. I may have considered buying the car in Canada just for that feature (I'm only 30 mins from Vancouver), but I didn't know that wasn't included. In the Corolla brochure it's not even listed although it's standard....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(razzledazzlebee @ Feb 21 2007, 06:41 PM) </div> Yeah I'm questioning that lol. Since when did the Corolla/Matrix ever get automatic headlights? Our Canadian models don't have them.
So, do we have any Canadians that can find out if the sensor on the dash for auto headlights can be used in a US model Prius to automatically control the on/off function of the headlights? If not, or too complicated, does anyone know of an aftermarket system that can be used? Sounds like a job for Coastal...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ilusnforc @ Mar 26 2007, 04:50 PM) </div> I also would like to add this feature. Has anyone figured it out yet ??? Aftermarket or factory, it can't be too hard. I was hoping someone already has done it and could advise..
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom 6850 @ Feb 17 2007, 01:17 PM) </div> Hey that's weird, my 2007 Prius, pkg 6 (fully loaded) Touring has the auto lights feature, or am I hallucinating...Pg 110 of the manual explains how to use it. Position 3 on the headlight turn switch is the "Auto" position...Please correct me if I am wrong.
You may have gotten a Canadian model. I'm pretty sure it even says in the owners manual, where you describe the instructions for use of the Auto setting, that it is a Canadian feature. Can you locate the sensor on the dash? I wonder how much it would cost (assuming it's completely plug-and-play) to add the sensor and stalk with auto position and whatever else is needed. Anyone know of a Canadian Prius salvager? Edit: Bagh... I just remembered... I think HID lights were not available in Canadian models because of the Auto headlight feature. That may cause some incompatibility problems.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ilusnforc @ Apr 9 2007, 08:53 PM) </div> That's interesting, didn't know it was luck of the draw getting a "canadian" model or otherwise. I suppose I am fortunate, eh Doesn't say anywhwere in the section for headlights that the auto or DRL is a canadian feature. And yes, there is a sensor on the dash that the salesman pointed out to when I specifically asked him about the auto lights feature. However, on Pg 112 there is a separate section for Headlights and turn signals (without auto light control system).
there should be two sensors on the dash, one for the climate control system and one for the auto headlight system. If you have the "auto" feature.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(chutney @ Apr 9 2007, 08:38 PM) </div> There are TWO sensors (domes) on the dash, not one. How many do you have?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Apr 9 2007, 10:05 PM) </div> In the US, we have one, and a knock-out for the hole for the second. One would knock out the plastic and put the light sensor in for the auto-headlights. We're definitely less equipped in the US.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(htmlspinnr @ Apr 9 2007, 10:18 PM) </div> I know but chutney said he had two on his US-spec Touring. And I wouldn't say you're less equipped. You have HIDs and leather option for less money. Not to mention the Touring package.
I talked with my service dept and they said auto headlights cannot be added to our 2007, it must be factory installed. On my dash on the left front there is a sensor, which I beleive is for the auto headlights. If the sensor is there why can't it be added?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom 6850 @ Apr 10 2007, 04:46 AM) </div> the sensor you have is for the climate control not for the auto headlights.
