Hmm, my display looks nothing like yours, mine is kind of green and black. How did you get the pretty blue?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(gotroot801 @ Mar 29 2007, 08:20 AM) </div> lol. It's okay. The point is you beat a personal best. Now you can aim for 45, then 50 and so forth.
Best so far this year: 46.2 Worst: 44.8 That's usually my range, unless the car goes on a trip. This thread is reminding me to check my tire pressure, it's been at least 6 months........
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(FireEngineer @ Mar 27 2007, 05:27 PM) </div> Well,I just got mine 2 days ago and it shows 44.8, most in the city, about 100 mils so far. how about some clues as to what I need to know. Thanks Wayne.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(samuel @ Mar 30 2007, 07:43 PM) </div> I got 70.4 on my way into work yesterday ( 15 miles) but ended up with 57 round trip back to home, since i live in the mountains. Downhill to work... uphill to home. But I'm starting to get the hang of the Pulse and Glide technique. Oh and PS: I just re-read the topic, it is still winter here, as the highs are only in the high 40's to low 50s.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(samuel @ Mar 30 2007, 07:43 PM) </div> Hang in there it gets better. Mine started out low and keeps getting better each day. I've done 271 miles in the first week and hit 49.5mpg. I filled up at the halfway point when I got this mileage.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(kathrynne1 @ Mar 29 2007, 11:16 PM) </div> kathrynne1. Welcome to PriusChat, by the way. The display color scheme can be changed. Sorry, I can't remember the exact steps off the top of my head, but if you check your owner's manual -- or if you're like me just start fiddling with the display buttons -- you should be able to find out how. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(samuel @ Mar 30 2007, 07:43 PM) </div> Hello Wayne, and welcome to PriusChat. As a great starting point, use the techniques in this article written by one of the PC moderators. Then read this article on CleanMPG, which focuses specifically on driving technique. Be patient and persistent, and you'll see your numbers rise.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(dmckinstry @ Mar 28 2007, 01:16 PM) </div> Well, I'm on the way home now. In about 280 miles I'm at midpoint on the guess gauge. That includes about 30 miles around Moss Landing and Watsonville. I got as high as 58.1 mpg after having driven through a lot of gridlock until I finally got onto 505 (a bypass that took me up to I-5). Getting onto 505 and traveling 65 mph, the mileage gradually dropped until at Corning I'm at 55.8 mpg. Still the best mileage I've ever had over an extended distance. I'm told that the gas in California has ethanol in it even during the summer. I'll be curious as to what happens to my mileage when I get into Oregon. Dave M.
My last tank was 55 here in South Bend! I bought at the end of September, so I really did not see very many warm days last year. I am hoping that once the temperatures get in the summer range on a regular basis, I will be closer to 60 for my commute.
I'm still averaging just over 62 MPG on my tank and have over 350 miles on it now. However I've noticed that the first 5 minutes is what matters the most. First 5 minutes I get like 30 MPG, after that I don't get lower than 75 MPG.
54.4MPG. My last tank was 54.1 MPG. Good news after a pretty lame winter (it was much colder this winter than last).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(FireEngineer @ Mar 31 2007, 12:25 PM) </div> Well, it's already like 70F out here and I do have some insulation around my radiator. I think it has something to do with my battery, but I won't even be able to tell until I can get into my apartment. I'm at my parents house while they are fixing my apartment. The management has been extremely slow so it's been nearly two weeks, even though I've told them like 7 times. Anyways, I figured out that I just need to accelerate faster. Figured out that my MPG during the first few minutes doesn't change no matter how fast I accelerate, so accelerating slow doesn't help. Just starting accelerating faster and I upped that MPG to 40-45 during the first five minutes. Also, know that I have a classic Prius, so it won't be as good as your first five minute MPG no matter what.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tripp @ Mar 31 2007, 02:33 PM) </div> Well the best I've ever seen on the MFD for more than 200 miles was from Weed, CA this weekend to Pasco, WA. That tank was for a distance of 464 miles and the MFD reported 55.9 mpg and was along U.S. 97. I did try to keep the speed at 60 mph (except in passing through towns) most of the trip. However, the first 100 miles was driven at higher speeds by my wife and the average for that part was 50 mpg. So the average during the last 360 miles of the trip had to be above 56 mpg. To be fair, there was a drop in elevation from 3458 ft at Weed to 439 ft at Pasco. But on the 120 miles from Pasco to Cheney, the MFD reported 53.0 mpg and the elevation increased to 2375 ft at my house. Dave M.
Thanks for calling me out of retirement Jimbok, Skywre7, and FireEngineer. I guess if I didn't have two short trips during the day I would be doing better than 77.0 mpg after 323 miles on this tank. I thought my gas gage was broken when the first pip finally disappeared at 232.6 miles. He he.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(VABeachPrius @ Apr 7 2007, 12:41 AM) </div> Just when I thought I was doing pretty good, this character resurfaces with his ridiculous numbers. He he back to you! <Speaks and grins with obvious sarcasm> Anyway, welcome back. If you haven't already seen the post, we have a Central VA Prius meetup scheduled. We'd love to have you make the trip up if you can.
Jim, I'll be there. Keep up the good work. I see you posting 70+ mpg numbers. Since I have to take a two and a half week trip I won't be able to drive that many miles in the month of April. Maybe I could use this trip to break 900 miles and fill up in your area. He he he.
Chris, good to see you back in the forum. And I would like to claim the temporary title for spring right now. Just filled up after my New England road trip and pulled a 80.5 MPG for my 20 mile commute this morning. I now return you to the regular Virginia guys who'll be beating me by week's end. Wayne
Damn cold spell is a PITA!! I had a 66mpg + tank a month ago and am struggling to get over 57mpg this tank due to some highway driving in 30 degree weather and a couple of cold starts after parking outside. I've only got one pip left on the fuel guage and will need to fuel soon and still am sitting at 56.9. Temps should hit 50+ today before In any case, I shouldn't bring down my LMPG, but it sure would be nice to start the push upward before the extreme summer heat does it's damage.
