I was just wondering if anyone has seen their proximity key on an 06 prius run down the batteries in less than the 2-3 years the manual states. I'm having a bit of trouble with my 06 .. at least doors don't unlock automatically when touched, and more troublesome .. the "key with line through it" on dash that indicates the key is out of range staying on while the car is already in "ready" and started. I haven't had to do the dashboard key slot override thing, but I have had to unlock the doors from the fob quite a few times. .. than there was the horn blaring in panic mode when the button wasn't pressed, but that is a different question. Anyway, any ideas ? I assume the batteries are user replaceable in any event. Satsuke
changed the battery in the fob for both the Classic and the 2k4 at about 2 years. Made a big difference in range on both.
How much is a new fob? Plus they then have to be programmed? I was at the dealer for the steering shaft recall thing. They reported $90 just to program fobs.
If your fob isn't behaving, spend $3 and replace the battery. Stop your mental anguish! It's easy to change and it's only $3. The hardest part is finding a #0 Phillips screwdriver.
Have you tried pressing the SKS button under the steering wheel? Maybe 2-3 time will put it back in normal SKS mode.
The thing that is interesting is I switched to the second key fob .. the one that never gets used and get the same kind of result. Might be time to take it to the dealer .. that or polish / clean the recievers
cell phones and the fob are a problemetic issue with the Prius. If you have a cell don't keep it and the fob in the same pocket.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Frank Hudon @ Apr 6 2007, 11:53 AM) </div> I've read in the manual about not keeping cell phones with the key fob in the same pocket. I just wonder why they would interfere At least, in the US cell phones operate on 800 & 1900mhz bands (Nextel has some others in 700 and 2100mhz I believe). The RFID tag in the prius operates on (I believe) 315mhz .. generally two transmitters operating on different frequencies like this won't interfere if done properly. I'll figure something out ..
