I just got my Prius!!! It's an option 2 car so no JBL stereo. I found a set of JBL speakers (JBL GTO607C) which are sensitive 92 db's and run at 2 ohms. I'm wondering if the stock amp can run at 2 ohms with out over heating, or blowing up? Seems like an easy upgrade. Does anyone know what impedence (Ohm) the stock speakers are and what the stock amp can handle?

    Thanks,

    Nick

I would stick w/ 4 ohm speakers, there are plenty of choices, no reason to prefer JBL's.

Beware that while the stock speakers suck (in epic scale, I couldn't believe how tiny the magnets were), the head unit is trying to compensate for those crappy speakers with some aggressive equalization. You may find you don't enjoy the sound of the new/better speakers.

Then you go down a very, very ugly road (or at least I did). But hey, they don't call me Silly for nothing. :)

heheh sounds just fine for talk radio though ;) I soon hope to have a DICE unit for my new never used IPOD and will find out just how bad they really sound. So far with just the radio music, it is ok for my use, then again, I am used to having to crank up the radio in my F350 Diesel just the hear it, no radio, no matter how good it is will never sound good in that trcuk it is just TOO loud. That and I cant hear certain tones anymore due to listening to too much rock in a small car with 12" woofers and 1000 amps of power.
