Is there an upper speed limit to safely use the "B" setting on the transmission? For example, I go through the Eisenhauer tunnel in Colorado at 60 mph and am looking at the huge downhill towards Dillion, Can I shift to "B" without damaging the car?
I have a 7% downgrade that I go over every day. It is freeway at 70-75 MPH. I have no problem with using "B" it really works well to hold the speed without constantly having to break to shed 5-10 MPH.
The transmission on the Prius is entirely computer controlled. You can't shift it into a harmful mode, try as you might. Tom

It is my understanding that this is ther very purpose of the engine brake. I don't think you have anything to worry about. In fact, you will be making good use of a very unique feature of the Prius.
