Well, as much as I disagreed with almost everything Kow said, the dancing banana always made me smile. The truly great, giddiness-inducing thing about the Justice Department scandal (still awaiting its moronically obligatory "gate"-suffixed title) is how it owes its existence to the gratuitous nastiness of these hate-driven punks in the White House.
But NOOOOOOO! These spiteful sadists, who so revel in causing pain that they can't let a single opportunity pass untaken, had to impugn the fitness of the fired, thus forcing them to defend themselves by attacking their attackers and elevating their dismissals to, as George H.W. Bush was fond of putting it, a media "feeding frenzy."

The tone is, of course, set at the top - or, to put it less loftily, the fish rots from the head. Just as Richard M. Nixon's innate deviousness defined and destroyed his presidency, so is George W. Bush's innate cruelty - and the complementary vindictiveness of Cheney, Gonzales and Rove - defining and destroying his.

What's obvious to all but the willfully blind is that Bush truly enjoys hurting people. His every action is designed to inflict pain, from that loathsome habit of giving people nicknames - hey, media suck-ups, it's not cute, it's contemptuous, a bully-boy saying, "I think so little of you that I'm not gonna call you by your name, I'm gonna call you what I want to call you" - to the cavalier decimation of a nation.

But then, it's George W. Bush's special gift to bring out the absolute worst in everybody.

Note the original post; it did not contain anything that can be shown to be untrue, and was actually quite restrained in showing dislike of our current administration. And most of all, it does not resort to childish tactics like animated smilies or sarcastic laughter. All in all, a perfectly rational post.

Now, we take note of the above response. It criticizes the first post without giving justification for said criticism, no explanation of it's side, nothing except a healthy dose of sarcastic laughter. I'm sure most people would NOT classify this as rational discourse.

And yet it the above poster's mind, the first post is NOT rational, yet his IS.

Class dismissed.

 

His LEAVING statement is in case the "Mods Ban" him for posting this thread.... He wasnt saying he was leaving.

Kows right in the aspect of others that get over-looked in the threads,

Is he still around? I haven't seen a post from him since he started this thread. I can't imagine he was banned. It does seem as though he left by choice.

Of course, this is supposed to be fun, and when it's not fun anymore, there's no reason to stay. But here's one leftie who will miss him if he's really gone. Maybe he just needed some time off.

Serious- you were banned for calling someone a "doofus"? How is it that some of the right-wingers here routinely call some of the more liberal members names like "moron" without being banned (there was an instance of that today)? Why did Mystery Squid get away with comparing me to Hitler on several occasions without being banned (I know he was banned other times, but not for that). I've said it before and I'll do so again: I believe that we're continually being incited --for reasons having little to do with our personal welfare or that of our Country-- to polarize our viewpoints and come down decisively 'for' or 'against' something (usually based on misinformation, lack of information, or just plain emotion). And, in doing so, we eliminate any chance for finding common ground or a chance to compromise.

This, in turn, leads to isolation and distrust and the need to surround ourselves with more people exactly like us...at the expense of all sorts of diversity.

Also, from an ecological viewpoint, it also causes the formation of insular neighborhoods, shunning public transportation and high efficiency dwellings for single family residences and the security of our own vehicles.

We know that diversity is a positive for an ecosystem; the reality of it is, it's also a HUGE positive for our society. Despite the best attempts of some to pathologize it.

I've been limiting my time here on PC, and in FHOP in particular, 'cause I feel that the lack of respect (and the willingness to embrace hate speech as 'just another viewpoint') shown by some preeminent posters is really far more damaging than most of us are willing to admit.

Hate speech and disrespect and intolerence are only weapons designed to derail discourse. They are NEVER part of the solution.

NEVER.

Remember, too, that when the talking stops, the fighting begins.
