Prius Wagon Mod

said it once and ill say it again, i think that the Prius will be spun off as an extra division just like Lexus and Scion. then this will be a very real possibility. i think Toyota is only now waiting to get the extra manufacturing capacity in place first. this idea will not happen until they can start manufacturing in the US

 

OK, I just thought of another idea for my Stretch Prius.

Build it with a telescoping frame, like a dinning table. Then you can expand it and add rows of seats/pair of door modules like leaves in the dinning table. Instead of having people on both ends to pull it appart and push it together, you could set the parking brakes on the back wheels and then drive the cab back or forward.

I will use better locking latches than the dinning tables though.

 

How about a Prius Convertable? What would it look like?

How's this for a sports car/family wagon?


Rinspeed has made some very abstract but innovative designs including the "Presto" that actually stretches from a two-seater to a 4-seater by extending it's wheelbase mechanically. They've also made the "Bedouin" which is normally a 4-passenger Porsche wagon but the rear portion of the roof can drop down to make it like a two-seater pickup.

It looks like Toyota already makes your "Prius wagon", I just spotted one while I was going for a walk today. They call it the "RAV4". LOL, I saw it and my first thought was, "that looks a lot like the photo-shopped Prius/wagon" and I was wondering what it was, sure enough it is a Toyota (just ask them to put a Prius HSD drivetrain in it for you).

 

The RAV4 is an SUV, with bigger wheels/tires and much greater ground clearance. Much different vehicle, though there is a family resemblance- most notably the Prius wagon has the reverse-canted D-pillar found on the RAV4. This has become a trend in recent years on smaller SUVs/crossovers (I think the Nissan Murano was the first), but when I saw this new styling trend it seemed vaguely familiar. The I remembered where I had first seen it- on the Camry wagon from the early '90s. It looked strange to me then, but now I'm getting used to it.
