I'm still a noob, on my 4th tank of gas. But I'm already hooked on the challenge of boosting my mileage as much as possible without being obnoxious when there's other traffic around. We had a warm spell earlier this week and 130 miles into my tank the MFD said 56.9 MPG. Much better than my previous tank of 45 MPG. Two days ago the temperature dropped, we had an all-day sleet storm yesterday and 50 miles later I'm now down to 49.8. So I see that temperature definitely has an effect, not to mention a day of concentrating on just staying on the road without worrying about trying to glide. I've seen several people post tank records with average temperatures with their tank records. Does anyone have a good source for this data? Or is this just a best guess? TIA, Joe
See this excellent thread and link at CleanMPG.com: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3182 It uses http://www.wunderground.com/, but to get to the average daily temp for the exact period you want takes a few steps. 1) Go to www.wunderground.com, enter your ZIP code, and hit enter. 2) When your city comes up, scroll down a little to the "History and Almanac" box. 3) Enter the beginning date of your tank in the drop-downs there and click Go. 4) The history for that date should appear. Below the date entry boxes, click "Custom." 5) Enter the end date of your tank and click Go. (The beginning date should be retained.) 6) There it is -- the weather almanac and history for the entire length of your tank.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(efusco @ Mar 17 2007, 04:00 PM) </div> well i would have thought the average temp will fluctuate especially if you go to another zip code or even another town
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(setheriah @ Mar 17 2007, 07:23 PM) </div> Is that a question? To find the avg. temp for your zip code then enter your zip code as indicated in the instructions above.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jalynn2 @ Mar 17 2007, 03:55 PM) </div> Joe, since the temp reading on greenhybrid.com is in increments of 10F I just post the temp at fill up. You just discovered the latest reason I hate winter. It's bad enough when the mpg plummets while you are moving. I hate running the car to power the defrosters so I can chip ice. Be careful out there or your pulse will be racing when you are gliding into something else. White stuff is one thing. We'll have the black ice in the mornings now until everything evaporates.
