2005 Prius DVD question

I have the CAN-View (v3) for my 2005 Prius. It lets you input video signals using an external NTSC to RGB converter. I haven't done it, as I have a separate monitor I use for rear view monitoring. The link you want is below:

Of course, the CAN-View provides you with a lot more. If you only want it for the video, you would probably consider it too expensive.

I just looked at Coastal's web site, and they do list the Universal ViewTech Controller as available for the 2003-2005 Prius.

Do check with them to see if they're in stock. They have a reputation being slow in delivery if something isn't in stock.

Something that I ordered over a week ago and have the tracking number for, still hasn't (at least as of 15 minutes ago) been delivered to U.P.S. yet. On another occasion an item was delivered within a week.

I have an '05 also. I installed a DVD player and got the ultimate lockpick from Coastal. It works great. For long (otherwise) boring trips across the midwest, it makes travel more tolerable.

Hey, Jared! Been away from PriusChat for over a week and missed your post. If you can still use the information, I too, have a 2005 and learned that to operate a backup camera AND a DVD, I needed the "Ultimate Camera Lockpick." It's a bit hard to find as it's shown only at the bottom of the regular camera lockpick page: http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMERALOCKPICK.htm

You will also need a video or A/V selector switch to operate additional inputs because you only have a single A/V input (L & R Audio & composite video) to work with. However, going into reverse will switch you from any other input to the reverse camera automatically. I'm using an AudioAthority 4-input 1154 auto-sensing switcher because the other signal sensors I tried, switched too slowly.

Incidentally, I installed a Pyle PLDVMP4 (DVD & MP3/MP4) which fits the opening under the Radio and still accommodates the curved, smoked plastic cover. Hope this helps.

 

What would the recommendation be for enabling DVD or A/V input only?

I would like ot be able to get a DVD MP3 deck so I can:
- Play MP3 off a DVD
- Play DVD movies on screen
- Plug in an external media device (PSone, ipod, zen, etc) for display and audio

I have a 2005 prius and no NAV and no intention of getting or using a backup cam.

I also looked for the DVD player you mentioned but could not find it. I would like ot add it in the smoke covered compartment as well.

G-Net can handle two video sources. Both come with trigger wires. You can use one for backup camera and one for DVD, for instance.

Im thinking I could replace the factory cd changer. I've never used it, not even once so why not replace it with something I'd use.

My car does not have Nav or the upgrade stereo.

In either of these cases, it’s the same model regardless of whether or not you have Nav. Installed.

It appears that the DVD I bought has been replaced with a Pyle PLDVD-MP4, and it still has the USB port on the front for playing MP3’s directly from one of the memory chip key chains. You can also connect your external media device into the RCA jacks on the front panel. It’s the exact dimensions so it will fit, as mine did, behind the smoked cover. There’s one shown and described at PriceGrabber.com and offered for $119.99 + freight (there’s also a $5.00 rebate). . Didn’t look long, so may be available elsewhere at a lower price.
