Hey guys, Just so you know, I have been searching old post for about an hour and still have my question. I did not want you to think I had not tried. I am finding alot of topics on watching dvds on the stock screen, but here is my question. I have a 2005 Prius without the reverse camera option. Is it still possible to use my screen to view DVDs? I saw the LockPick that coastal offered, but it said for 06-07 models only... I don't know what the CanView is either and maybe that is the answer. Sorry to post about something that has probably been driven in the ground... if anyone can just give me a link on the 2005 issue that would be great. thanks for the help jared

It lets you input video signals using an external NTSC to RGB converter. I haven't done it, as I have a separate monitor I use for rear view monitoring. The link you want is below: http://www.hybridinterfaces.ca/extvid.html Of course, the CAN-View provides you with a lot more. If you only want it for the video, you would probably consider it too expensive. Dave M.
i might look into the canview a bit more later down the road i guess, but it does so much more than i am looking to do right now... if i only wanted the video option on my prius are there any options??? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(dmckinstry @ Mar 5 2007, 07:48 PM) </div>
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jrod81 @ Mar 6 2007, 12:01 PM) </div> I just looked at Coastal's web site, and they do list the Universal ViewTech Controller as available for the 2003-2005 Prius. http://www.coastaletech.com/universal_video.htm Do check with them to see if they're in stock. They have a reputation being slow in delivery if something isn't in stock. Something that I ordered over a week ago and have the tracking number for, still hasn't (at least as of 15 minutes ago) been delivered to U.P.S. yet. On another occasion an item was delivered within a week. Dave M.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jrod81 @ Mar 5 2007, 04:37 PM) </div> I have an '05 also. I installed a DVD player and got the ultimate lockpick from Coastal. It works great. For long (otherwise) boring trips across the midwest, it makes travel more tolerable.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jrod81 @ Mar 5 2007, 04:37 PM) </div> Hey, Jared! Been away from PriusChat for over a week and missed your post. If you can still use the information, I too, have a 2005 and learned that to operate a backup camera AND a DVD, I needed the "Ultimate Camera Lockpick." It's a bit hard to find as it's shown only at the bottom of the regular camera lockpick page: http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMERALOCKPICK.htm You will also need a video or A/V selector switch to operate additional inputs because you only have a single A/V input (L & R Audio & composite video) to work with. However, going into reverse will switch you from any other input to the reverse camera automatically. I'm using an AudioAthority 4-input 1154 auto-sensing switcher because the other signal sensors I tried, switched too slowly. Incidentally, I installed a Pyle PLDVMP4 (DVD & MP3/MP4) which fits the opening under the Radio and still accommodates the curved, smoked plastic cover. Hope this helps.
What would the recommendation be for enabling DVD or A/V input only? I would like ot be able to get a DVD MP3 deck so I can: - Play MP3 off a DVD - Play DVD movies on screen - Plug in an external media device (PSone, ipod, zen, etc) for display and audio I have a 2005 prius and no NAV and no intention of getting or using a backup cam. I also looked for the DVD player you mentioned but could not find it. I would like ot add it in the smoke covered compartment as well. Thanks in advance.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jrod81 @ Mar 5 2007, 05:37 PM) </div> jrod81, If your '05 comes with a NAV, Please look into this thread http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=24434&hl= If not, please see others' suggestions. G-Net can handle two video sources. Both come with trigger wires. You can use one for backup camera and one for DVD, for instance.
Would this http://www.brilliant-electronics.com/car_d...pyle_pld135.htm work in our cars? Im thinking I could replace the factory cd changer. I've never used it, not even once so why not replace it with something I'd use. My car does not have Nav or the upgrade stereo.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(datterboy @ Mar 17 2007, 02:53 AM) </div> I still like the LOCKPICK products – they install easily and they work. Also, as they are made up of basically a loom or two of wire and very little “active ingredientsâ€, one could guess reliability may exceed that of a complex processor, etc. The “Ultimate LOCKPICK†(referred to in places as the “Ultimate LOCKPICK1â€) is designed to run a DVD, plus with an A/V switch, as many other devices as your switch has inputs. http://coastaletech.com/APPLICATION%20GUIDE.htm To connect a DVD AND a camera on the 05, requires an “Ultimate Camera LOCKPICK.†http://coastaletech.com/CAMERALOCKPICK.htm (last bullet, bottom of page) In either of these cases, it’s the same model regardless of whether or not you have Nav. Installed. It appears that the DVD I bought has been replaced with a Pyle PLDVD-MP4, and it still has the USB port on the front for playing MP3’s directly from one of the memory chip key chains. You can also connect your external media device into the RCA jacks on the front panel. It’s the exact dimensions so it will fit, as mine did, behind the smoked cover. There’s one shown and described at PriceGrabber.com and offered for $119.99 + freight (there’s also a $5.00 rebate). . Didn’t look long, so may be available elsewhere at a lower price. http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Pyle_Pyle_P...ity,__10253855/ I bought mine on eBay through seller “ roadentertainment †at his Buy It Now price of $75. plus shipping. You may wish to contact him and ask if he will be offering the new model. Aloha
