We have only filled up twice so far and each time it seems as the car does not want to ingest the fuel. have to puu the nozzel so for out to even pump any amount of gas and the pump then shuts off right away.. when it does decide to take in the gas it has to go slower than a turtle. Is this common to the prius...??? thanks
Some Prius have a problem taking fuel. I set the pump at the slowest setting and usually that takes care of it. I have time to wash the windshield and back window while the tank is filling.

You beat me to it with your post. I was ready to post a new one addressing this problem. I am sure it has been addressed before. I have filled up 6 or 7 times now but the last 2 were extremely difficult to get fuel into the tank. If I figure my MPG with what I put in the tank it is really getting great but it is not accurate. My last 2 fill ups were at different gas stations. Does the tank being a bladder have anything to do with it?
It has happened to me a few times over the past year. I blame the low pressure in the gas pump and the cold temperature constricting my fuel tank bladder. I don't worry about it too much.
I quess I am a lucky dog! I have never experienced this with my new Prius. Takes Gas just like any other car I have owned, at the fasted pump speed. When it shuts off the first time, it is full. Also, I would never bet my key fob on anything. You wouldn't gamble with any other family member, would you?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NoMoShocks @ Mar 18 2007, 07:06 PM) </div> I've never had any problems with fueling. I set the nozzle on the slowest setting, and just let it click off when done. I have had problems with some other cars, but it was always due to a bad pump/nozzle. Tom
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(qbee42 @ Mar 18 2007, 06:47 PM) </div> I agree. The only fueling problems I experienced was a stretch with either my '83 or '89 Olds, or was it my '75 Pontiac? I really can't recall which one but it sure was a PITA at the time. IMO either find a different pump at the station or find another station.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NoMoShocks @ Mar 18 2007, 04:06 PM) </div> Me too. I don't know what all the fuss is about. 1 year, 25,000 miles, lots of gas, no problems filling. Twice a week, I put in between 6 and 8 gallons. No big deal. I usually use the fast setting at Costco, and everywhere else, too. Good luck with yours.
I have been watching this tread on the fueling anomalies, that some of the "PriusChat" folks have been suffering. I have a 2007 #6 Prius and so far have burned approximately 5 tank loads of 89 octane fuel. I have not experienced any of the situations that have been written about. I then noticed that many, if not the majority of those having slow fueling anomalies with their Prius, are located East of the Rocky Mountain States/Cities. I have no clue why I noticed this! I am clueless as to what this observation means.
fish, here is some data to add to your observations: I live east of the Rocky Mountains and have had no trouble filling up at full speed at any pumps and any octane level, and for at least a dozen fill ups. Does that mean anything to the people who are having problems? just as clueless as fish, Geeky Teacher
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(geeky teacher @ May 5 2007, 08:17 PM) </div> How totally charming ...... I live West of the Rocky Mountains, an escapee from the Southside of Chicago many years back. My cluelessness continues to plague me on this "pumping of the gas", I have no answers, I suffer no "fill up" problems and somehow still have questions. I wil live with the questions and consider the situation a mystery.
We first had that on the first 3 tanks now it takes the fuel with no problems and EAST of the rockies. But we did stop going to walmart for gas and have improved mpg by 3 maybe its because it is warmer now but we bought ours in march so it was not too cold then. but it fills up correctly now.
I had problems the first few times putting gas into our used 2005 Prius. Try holding the nozzle at 5 O clock and you will find that it should fill up perfectly. Daniel
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(fish @ Mar 20 2007, 12:30 PM) </div> Why 89 octane? The Prius is designed for 87 octane.
