Hi Forum, I've noticed a sqweak that I wonder if anyone has ideas for me to check. I think I never noticed before because during the Winter I had the windows up. I hear it at all speeds, seems to be under the front half of the car, it comes and goes, and stops when the wheels stop. One person suggested it might be the brakes, since I use them so infrequently so I tried pumping them hard to make it stop, but that didn't seem to do the trick. My car is a 2007, bought in Dec '06, and I have 6000 miles on it. Thanks!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PrairiePri @ Mar 13 2007, 07:40 PM) </div> It may be the brakes. If you get dirt or grime lodged between the brake pad and the disc it could make noise. One way to find out if it was caming from the wheel is to jack it up and spin the wheel so you can listen up close. I am not a pro, just giving some back yard machanic advice.
Thanks for the comments! I'm taking it to the dealer on Saturday for a quick check. I'll let you know if they find anything.
Hi Forum, Interesting solution to the noise problem! The dealer service dept. found a 3/16" rock located in the left front brake caliper. It required that they remove the caliper to get the small rock out. He said it was extreamly rare for a rock to get in there. It only made noise occationally because had a place to rest that didn't cause the noise, but when it got bounced into the right position, noise! I hope this is rare, because I live down dirt roads and run over a lot of little rocks. BTW, we got 66.7 mpg taking it to town yesterday for the service!!! I'm just so happy with the mpg we are getting now that we are over 6000 miles on the car. Hopefully rock free, PrairiePri !
