So, I'm ready to jump in and get the 2007 Prius with the Option #4 package that includes "Satellite ready". Can someone explain what exactly this means. I currently have Sirius radio service in my current car, a portable unit. Would I be able to take that unit and plug into the Prius and use it? Would the display show up on the main console. I can't seem to get a clear explanation from a salesman. Help please thanks in advance Kory
You'd certainly be able to use your Sirius unit in the new car...depending upon how you connect it. But the satellite ready thing means that there's an outlet in the back of the head unit that allows you to plug in the Toyota Satellite unit to the back and it will integrate with the head unit and the multi-display touch screen.
I assume this to mean that I'm not dependent on a certain Sirius satellite unti like one specifically for Toyota. I have a plug n play Starmate that I currently move from car to car and into the house. I'd be more than willing to make it a permanent fixture in the Prius, I just want to make sure its compatible

If you want to get the integrated unit for the MFD that plugs into the back of the head unit that's an OEM Toyota part that you must buy from Toyota or an outside vendor.
Although listed in the brochure, the Sirius is not yet available as a factory/dealer install. However, you can buy it from Factory Interactive for $395 with all connections, antenna, etc. It comes with a DVD of instructions as well as printed instructions. I have installed it in my 07 prius and it works excellent.

In my other car, I used a cassette adaptor to run the Sirius signal through the car radio. However, with the Prius, am not sure how I run the signal through the radio unless I try to connect the Starmate somewhere to the back of the radio. For the time being, I would just manually connect and disconnect the wires whenever the Starmate was in use or not being used. Any other suggestions? Rick

Perhaps you could get a male-male cable and plug one end into your Starmate's headphone jack and the other into the AUX jack. You'd have to tune through your Starmate, but you could listen through the car's speakers.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Brown @ Mar 11 2007, 05:59 PM) </div> The Starmate should have an option to broadcast it's signal to an empty FM station on your car radio. It should work fine. I've used that method before on my Prius before I installed the factory unit. Instructions will be in your Starmate book, or go to Sirius' website and download or read them.
