I just installed the DICE iPod Integration Kit in my 2004 Prius. I located my iPod in the CD Storage Box under the CD changer. This is a very convenient location that some of you may want to consider. Since the postings of many of you, especially hybrideyes, were so helpful I want to return the favor by adding to this knowledge base. I have attached a PDF file that shows how I did this.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PriusSV @ Mar 1 2007, 10:25 AM) </div> That's pretty much how I did mine, except I put the DICE unit in the are in between the upper and lower gloveboxes. There's a real nice slot that fits the DICE nicely after putting some weatherstripping on both sides of the unit. I'm jealous of your grommet
Thanks for the post, your photos take a lot of the apprehension out of drilling up my car. I'll order my DICE unit today.
Very nice installation document. I'm going to add it to the product description page on the PC Shop if you don't mind. Don't forget, the DICEs are available through PC for $135.15: http://priuschat.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/66
Given that I recently got my IPOD stolen out of my car (I had it in the armrest with a wire showing), but now have a DICE unit, does anyone think thieves would know there's a storage bin in there?
That's where I mounted mine too. Works really well - better in fact than what a friend of mine ended up with when he had a factory/dealer installed equivalent put in his BMW. I'm curious... is yours a recent Dice unit? I just installed mine in my 2004, and have had all sorts of problems with it seemingly crashing. Do you have it set to CDC mode? Thanks! Pete Oh... one other thing you might want to think about. I occasionally hook up a DVD player in the back seat for the kids, and when I do that, it's really great to have a headphone cable available as an input to the radio. One of the advantages of this installation method is that you can plug a head-phone style cable into the dice unit, tie it up with a twist-tie and tuck it back in the of the box. When you need it, you don't have to dig the dice out from behind the dash to plug a cable in, just extend it out of the box. Just remember to bring both the Ipod and headphone cables out of the whole you drill when you install it! Pete

Pete, Yes, it is a current DICE kit. Just received it from PC Shop last week. And yes, I'm operating it in the CDC mode. And my Prius is an '04. During testing with my 3rd generation iPod I caused a couple of lockups that required unplugging the DICE cable to reset. So, I restored the software on my iPod and don't unplug it until the car power is off. That makes my 3GEN happy. With my wife's new Nano there are no issues. Works as advertised. DICE warns us that 3GEN iPods have some limitations. VAIS doesn't even support them any longer. Good point about having a cable ready and plugged into the AUX Input if it is something you use.
