New rims that looks good?

I would go with 16 lbs one. Remember, the tires will add more weight as well. The OEM tires are pretty light and if you upgrade to 195 or 205 for 17" rims, you'll be adding at least 2 to 5 more lbs per tire.

Another alternative is to go with the rims I have. They look great with the black Prius and they are 15 lbs only and see the pic in my profile. When I had the 17" rims and Nexen tires in the summer, I noticed the better handling right away. I also noticed it was harder to stay in stealth due to pretty heavy tires (rated 168 mph top speed).

All look nice to me - your choice as to "style."

ONE CAVEAT: Try to confirm that your TPMS sensors can be fitted to your choice of new wheels [Assuming you have the Tire Pressure Monitoring System with sensors inside the wheel at the base of the fill stem]. It's my understanding that if they can be and are successfully transferred to your new wheels, you will need to have a Toyota dealer register them to your onboard computer.

 

I vote for the 16 pound Superlegerra. Nice wheel.

It went from 52 MPG to 48 MPG ... so it went down about 8%. Other than weight difference, my tires on 17" rims were 205 instead of 185 stock.

I keep looking at the Motegi Traklite 1.0 flat black 17x7" rims myself. They're only 14 lbs. Then add some Toyo Proxes 4 205/45R17 tires. h34r: Mmm...

Of course if I do that then I can't possibly ignore adding the TRD Sportivo and the Tom's braces as well. :lol: What's the point of having traction if your car folds in half before rolling over when you try to use it?

And then I go to my ATM to check my account balance and cry because I can't even afford a decal let alone unleashing the demon hiding in my Prius. :wacko: :blink: <_<

Time to buy another lotto ticket and dash my dreams once more...

You know, I've been thinking about this. The stock tires just plain suck as far as traction goes. They're not 'low energy' tires, but they might as well be for all the traction they get. I'd be willing to bet that any new tires, even of the same size, will result in a noticable MPG loss as long as they actually get traction. I think it's just simply the frictional coefficient that really kills you, not the size or weight. Improve traction, lose MPG.

I think just wrapping the rims in a wet burlap sack would get better traction than the Integrity tires on the Prius. But still, I don't think the Energy tires would suffice for me personally. I see far too much snow to settle for adequate-to-marginal. I need good all-seasons. I was scared a few times this winter and now the snow is supposed to be coming again here. I'm already darn tempted to buy some real tires even though I don't have the money for it.

Please have a look at the 17's I put on my black prius. I think they are really top notch!

However the tires I picked (Conti Pro contact) really seem to really worsen my mileage.

I am helping my friend who just also bought a black Prius to find a set of rims & tires that WON'T WORSEN HIS MILEAGE.

He is looking for 17's or 18's - what would be a good LRR tire for this size. I am running 205/50/17's and I must say that these tires give amazing handling in the Rain, which is why I bought them.

Here in Vancouver the roads are wet more often then they are dry (honestly). The factory tires just wouldn't cut it for me and my safety requirements.

At any rate, I am considering putting some wheels that come standard on the Scion TC. They have 215/45-17 tires. Here is a pic of those particular wheels on a Prius almost identical to mine.

I don't remember for sure, but I think the wheel weight is about 20 per. Any thoughts? I have to admit that I'm a little apprehensive about new wheels, don't know why.

I have the SCION TC rims on my Prius as well, I noticed a signifcant drop in my MPG..

thinking about going with some Volk TE37s... had them on my last car and they are light light light!

Oh, nice choice on the Superturismos, fine looking rims!

Thanks Homer, I think you made my decision for me. As much as I love the look, I'm not willing to risk a big drop in MPGs. But now you've got my interest in these Volks you mentioned. Do you have a link to these wheels? Many thanks again.
