I think Gmail is still in its beta period, so you can't get an account unless someone with an account invites you. I've got (now 4) invitations left, and was wondering if anyone wanted one. If so, PM me your email account and I'll send you an invitation.
Yes, it seems gmail is in it's "last" stages of beta, because the current users of it are getting more accounts to give away. I also have 5 invites available, if anyone's interested in a gig of email space just pm me. -m.
