I'm three hours into trying to program the Homelink to open a rolling code garage door (in Canada). I think I have tried every permutation known to humankind. Does anyone have any advice for a new Prius owner?

I would also like to remove the warning labels on the sun visors, door jambs, etc. (I also remove mattress tags!). Any suggestions or should I just visit an expert?

    Thanks in advance

Can't really help w/ the Homelink...did mine 3 1/2 years ago and haven't had to worry about it since.

AFAIK there is not good way to remove the warning stickers on the visors...some have tried and ended up w/ an ugly rectangular defect instead of the sticker. If you find a good way I'm all ears, but it seems to be one of those things that it does more harm than good to remove.

Thank you both...I've visited the homelink site and seem to be doing everything with no results. Perhaps this just requires a touch I've not found yet.

Apologies for posting the original question in this odd spot (Website posts)...I'll get the hang of it eventually.

    cheers

I took me quite a bit of time and a lot of cursing when I programmed by HomeLink two and a half years ago. Once I finally got it programmed to open the main garage door, it still took me another hour to program the second door.

If you still have the owner's manual of your garage door opener, make sure that you refer to it. That is what did the trick for me.

There is quite a bit of discussion of the subject matter on PriusChat. Perform a search, you will come up with quite a few threads.

I seem to remember that someone who had trouble, solved his problem by erasing the codes and starting anew (I think it is done by simultaneously holding down the first and third buttons for 30 seconds or so).

If all else fails, HomeLink has a toll free help number, it is shown at the end of the video.

    Good luck.

Thank you both for your quick replies. I'd visited the Homelink website and it wasn't too helpful. This could be a problem with the door opener so I'll play with it a bit more.

    Again, thanks.

(Is it just me or are those aesthetic felonies called warning labels stuck on every surface so common that no one notices...? They drive me crazy)

    cheers

I too had a difficult time with it, until I realized I just wasn't holding down the remote's button long enough. I had to hold it down for like a measure of minutes, rather than the 30 seconds or so suggested.

What I do is reset the homelink, I think holding button 1-3 at the same time for 20 seconds. Then program button one. Then program the garage opener by pushing the learn button on it. Works everytime.

 Like others, it required several tries to program my Homelink mirror button to open my 'rolling code' garage door opener. I followed the provided instructions TO THE LETTER[!]... previous tries I had been not as exacting. I did locate the manuals on my opener and was 'up and down' the stepladder to press the appropriate 'learn' button on the unit, then get to the Prius within the required time interval.

Keep trying... it *CAN* be done.

As for removal of the "sticky" labels on the visors, there are old posts in PriusChat, but as I recall, once removed the fabric of the visor still showed an unattractive imprint. You might try a search.

I was having trouble getting the Homelink to program on my Prius as well - it ended up being the opener I was using (the hand held unit). I have three openers for the garage door; two of them are the larger three button variety that clip into the sun visor and one is a smaller key-chain type. I could not get it to program using the keychain but once I switched to the larger unit (with fresh batteries just in case) it programmed exactly like the Homelink video says it should.

    Very fussy bit of technology.

Same here. By looking at the owner's manual for garage door opener itself, I found that there was two methods of making the opener learn. The obvious one didn't work, while the second worked right away.
