Sad day for my prius. Anyone know a good shop that can fix these scratches for a good price in nor-cal. Thnx [attachmentid=5423] [attachmentid=5424]
That sucks. Was it just on the handle? If so, I wonder if it's cheaper to have it painted or just replace the handle.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusbuyer @ Oct 22 2006, 06:13 PM) </div> That's a strange place for someone to intentionally key a car. You don't wear brass knuckles do you?
I know a "GREAT" shop. Unfortunately you're in CA and I'm in NY. My brother lives in SF, he said there are so my prius' in CA that the HOV lane is getting a bit cramped!
my car got keyed too but it's on the passenger side door. Don't know when it happened, probably within last few days. Is there anything that I can buy from store to apply to the problem area to prevent corrosion? Too lazy to go to shop to fix it and I am living in a not-so-civilized area right now so who knows when I'll get keyed again. thanks for any info.
I have scratches around my handle and fear that it's from passengers' rings and the like. These scratches, however, look considerably more intentional. Sorry to see it. But since you've posted the "before" pics, be sure to provide the "after" pics as well.
Not sure why someone would key a door handle for... How deep are the scratches? Maybe a bird was trying to land or a FAT CAT was trying to steal your car Anyways, sorry for the scratches
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Homer_Simpson @ Feb 23 2007, 09:59 AM) </div> Any body shop would be able to fix this. I had a scratch on the trunk of my 1997 Accord that was not down to the metal but there had to have been only a few molecules of paint left. They filled it and now, 9 years later, you can't even tell. You could do it yourself with some touchup paint from the dealer and a razor blade. Clean it with alcohol first. Then fill the scratch with a small brush using as little paint as possible. Lightly scrape the excess off with a single sided razor blade. (No the quad blade won't work better ). Let it dry. Repeat until the scratch is filled. Rub with rubbing compound until smooth. I have a black guitar that is scratched and this is how I am going to fix it. ~buttster
Sorry, that does suck. I know how you feel My Nissan Versa was also vandalised, someone threw a rock at it and it dented the fender and cracked'chipped-off the paint. Oh well though not my problem since I traded it in for my Prius.
My two-week old Prius got a nasty ding in the right front passenger door from some Neanderthal in a parking lot, who decided not to leave a note. $250 later, it's good as new. Harry
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusbuyer @ Oct 22 2006, 02:13 PM) </div> I've never before heard of anyone keying a door handle. That is most bizarre. Lance
Is it possible you had something in your hand that caused that? Thats really strange. Oh well, best place for that to happen. No body shop will charge you more than like $60-$70 to repaint the door handle for you.
Or maybe somebody parked next to you had keys hanging from his belt and rubbed up against the door handle?
Same here. I have a couple of long scratches (12 inches) on both sides of my rear passenger doors and on the driver door as well. It happened last night when we were parked in a strip mall. At first, I thought it wasn't intentional but it had to be when I found the other side was also keyed at about the same level (lower 3rd ). I tried applying some wax on it (they weren't too deep). It hid most of the scratches but I still have around 6 inches on both sides showing. Some people just don't like Prii.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Earthling @ Feb 23 2007, 06:11 PM) </div> That's cheap. It cost me $520 to have my door repainted. Of course they were down to the primer.
Had my car a week and someone dumped liquid (soda, coffee?) all over it in a theatre parking lot. It was 5 degrees out and it froze all over it. Washed off no problem, but what a pain......
Just an idea for consideration. Since the door handles are made of plastic, what about having them replaced at your toyota dealer? Faster, should look like new and no more worries.
It looks like all you need is paint. Some people are so mean/ I'll bet the dealer can take care of this as it's not too bad. Mary
