I successfully e-filed w/TurboTax online the other day, too. Says I should get my refund by 2/23, which is awesome! I, too, lost some of my credit due to AMT. Darn AMT... @(*$@(&$(&%@*@&

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(forman @ Feb 17 2007, 07:20 AM) </div> Correct. Leased vehicles do not qualify for the credit, only for purchased vehicles.

Could anyone tell me if the dealership is supposed to give any paperwork regarding the tax credit. I just purchased my prius on 2/12/07 and wanted to make sure that I didn't need anything from the dealership for my 2007 taxes. Thanks
The dealership doesn't have to give you anything and you don't have to send any special papers (other than the correct tax forms) to the IRS. I filed using TT on Wednesday and received the full $3150 credit.
Hmmm, I was anticipating some sort of hybrid credit. Unfortunately, my tax accountant informed me Friday that I would be getting a big "$0.00" credit for my hybrid. <_<

Presuming form 8910 remains unchanged for 2007 all you need is the purchase date, make, and model. The IRS publishes a list of the available credits. Try this for some peace of mind. Go to www.taxact.com and download the free tax software. Plug in your expected 2007 numbers. This will give you an idea if you qualify for the credit and enough time to make changes if you can. Enjoy the car.

Hello! I bought my 2006 Prius last year in Rhode Island and I live in Connecticut. I payed no sales tax in Rhode Island. I am currently filing my Conn. taxes and I am not sure if I have to pay the sales tax on my Prius from my RI purchase? On the state tax form from COnn. it asks about purchases over $500. out of state. Please help! Chrissy
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusownerCT @ Apr 14 2007, 03:19 PM) </div> Hello. Welcome to the site. I am absolutely amazed that you would even have this question. To register a car in NJ the buyer must prove that sales tax was paid to the seller. If not, the tax is collected at the MVC. IMO you are legally obligated to pay the Conn. sales tax. I am presuming since the car is a titled good there is some mechanism in place at the sate to verify sales tax compliance. I suspect if you don't pay it now sooner or later they will come after you for it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JimN @ Apr 14 2007, 08:25 PM) </div> Jim, Thank you for responding. I guess my main question is that I bought my 2006 Prius in Rhode Island and there was no sales tax on hybrid cars in Rhode Island . I then registered my car in Connecticut as I live here. And now in doing my state taxes for CT, it asks about purchases made in another state over x amount of money. I was assuming that maybe I did not need to pay a sales tax to Connecticut (as for #1 I did not purchase it in CT and as #2 CT does not have sales taxes on hybrids). I may be incorrect. I am not sure. What do you think? Thank you- Chrissy
I live here in CT. You should be aware that Hybrid vehicles are EXEMPT from Ct state sales tax. No matter where you bought it. As to how you fill out the form, I don't know. I'd go to and see if they have an FAQ. Good news. -T <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusownerCT @ Apr 14 2007, 08:50 PM) </div>
I am assuming that for 2008 we will still need to file: f1040 f6251 f8910 (not available from irs) I started the taxact.com process to familiarize myself with it, will I still need to file the 6251 and 8910 forms separately or will that program complete all of it for me? I'm not very familiar with the tax process and purchased my prius on 04/29/07.
I bought a new 2009 Prius on 12/17/08. 1. Am I eligible for any tax credit or deduction since this is a hybrid on my Federal Income Tax for 2008? 2. I live in FL and bought the car here. Is there any exemption, discoutn or credit in regards to Sales Tax since this is a hybrid? Thanks!!!
Toyota's federal hybrid tax credits have expired. If Florida has a tax program in place it would be detailed in the 2008 tax booklet.
