thats better than the one that I saw somewhere, I would definately buy that puppy, Hopefully its here in 08 and not in 09. Can't wait to add that to my Prius fleet. 90+ mpg thats awesome!!! Aparently this one has the litium Ion battery with the full EV mode right?
It looks as though they are taking a styling que from the Corolla and the Camry. I can't reed Janpanese but 40km/L works out to 94mpg! I like the lines but I don't like the wheels. Can anyone out there translate the text?
I voted "OK." It is a logical progression from the current design. I prefer the earlier pics I had seen of the possible '09 though. And who made the rule that hybrids have to have fugly wheels on them?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(usbseawolf2000 @ Feb 14 2007, 09:31 AM) </div> I like it. Can't wait for 09. wonder what my 07 will be worth on a trade in.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tiger roach @ Feb 14 2007, 07:44 AM) </div> the pre-production photos of the '04 Prius showed some fantastic wheels...you can actually buy them at Sigmaautomotive.com...but they'll set you back something like $1600. I'm quite certain that even if the drawings above are very close to what the '08/'09 Prius ultimately looks like that the wheels will be far different. Maybe not great, but better.
It does look a lot like the Yaris front end... I'm glad they seem to be keeping the same general lines because I like the pod shape of the car. Aerodynamics probably contribute somewhat to their decision on creating/keeping the shape. That front grill is getting a little overdone though. I like the simplicity of the current model's front end because it's fairly distinctive from other cars/models. Maybe pushing the design a little more mainstream will attract more buyers though, and that can't be bad.
The mag article correlates with Dec'06 report from ASAHI SHIMBUN Changes include: - THS gen-3 expected in 2008 JDM Prius. - lithium ion bat - new 1.5l ice (1ZZ-FXE) - new lighter electric motor with similar max toque 400Nm from zero rpm. - improved milage while having smaller/lighter hybrid system (40km/l with power of a 2.4l) - Plug-in? sorry not mentioned...
The rear brake LED lights are bigger now too. I like it, it screams. I was planning to keep my 06 Prius until 2016. It is becoming very difficult. Must resist... Dennis
Detroit has conditioned us to expect stylish boxes with high power engines. Toyota is helping to shift our perspective, away from the current Detroit "soap" cars, to efficient fusiform shapes. When you place a cubic block of parafin in a stream of water, the cube slowly mutates to a fusiform shape - one that offers the least resistance to the fluid. Cars travel through a fluid, air. It makes aerodynamic sense to have fusiform vehicles. Toyota is just taking the lead. Many purchases are made on emotion, not logic. Unspoken concerns about new shapes include crash worthiness, useable interior space, maintenance and day-to-day use. Remember, Prius II is a radical change from conventional automobiles, and is one of the most aerodynamic.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ManualOnly @ Feb 14 2007, 12:23 PM) </div> Did you provided the right link? That link only mentioned about a new hybrid only model Toyota plan to introduce in 2009. Dennis
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(usbseawolf2000 @ Feb 15 2007, 01:42 AM) </div> I am gathering the info on 3rd gen Pruis based on multiple sources. Besides the Japanese press and mag, there are similar reports from Japanese online auto sites like this one. http://car.daiup.com/toyota/ I am pretty sure the G3 Prius should be available in Japan only by fall 2008. Hence USDM version should arrive sometime in mid-2009.
I like it. I can see me trading in Priapus for that car. Unfortunately, I don't like trading in perfectly good cars with fewer than 100,000 miles on the odometer. At current averages (950 miles per month) it'll be 2012 before I'm ready to put Priapus out to stud. I'll have to join SeeWolf and fight the urge.
Can you lot really not tell that it's the current Prius with slightly touched up nose and tail? The artist hasn't even bothered to touch a thing between the axles. Ah, I tell a lie, they've drawn an extra crease on.
You guys are right - From the front it does look like a cross between the current Prius and a Yaris. Personally I really prefer the other version that was posted recently (below) It looks more European: [attachmentid=6571] Keith
I agree with the pictures being fake. It looks pretty close to the current gen Prius. Usually, a generation change means a complete redesign of the car, both aesthetics and mechanicals. It should be as radical as the Prius 1 changing over to the Prius 2 style.
